OK, my car was idling low, so i cleaned out my throttle body today.... i also added fuel injector cleaner to the gas tank, if nothing else just for "good luck"...
well, now my car runs just as it did, BUT when i get on the highway and push it, then clutch and take it out of gear, the rpms will drop down to about 600(which is what my car has been idling at), then it will drop below the last notch and basically die(power steering goes out, etc), but alot of the times it "restarts" itself immediately... a couple of times it didn't and i put it back in gear(to restart it). if i dont redline it or push it hard right before i take it out of gear it will run just fine.... but i have no idea what this could be... at first i thought it was the ecu resetting, since i took the battery cable off... and after running it a while the CEL flickered and then came back on(it has been on a while), but it's still doing it...
a/f ratio? sensors? injectors? plugs? compression? help me out guys, this is really starting to bother me....

sounds electrical. i have had similar expereinces in the MR2. Could be two wires crossed somewhere. just seems electrical. cause its sporadic right?

it died like that twice in the last month or so... but it's done it a few times tonight since i cleaned out the tb...
yes it may be electrical, something else has been happening for a while, my 15" speaker will make a "pop" noise every now and then, mostly when i crank my car... thought it may be a bad ground but i have no idea there either....

Can you take it to Toyota? You have the 100K warranty don't you?

if i sprayed anything in there, it was very very little... i was very careful, most was sprayed on the rag then wiped... it was STP TB and air intake cleaner...
i had someone look at it today, it took them 10 seconds to figure out it was missing... so i guess that's a bad plug... going to the dealer sometime this week...

If you have an aftermarket alarm, it may have been installed around/onto the ecu of your car (the one that has the fuses on it...that red box). If that's the case, the alarm may have been back feeding wrong codes to the computer. If you're lucky, it hasn't burned your computer. If your like me...it was already too late...and cost $1200.00 to fix.
Hopefully that ain't the case wit you bro

If you run your engine at highway speeds, then get off the gas and it dies or idles low, it usually means your EGR valve is getting stuck. The throttle body cleaning might have made it stick. I give mine a slight thump and that usually cleans it up. Your MAF might be the culprit, but my experience with Toyotas has been the EGR valve.

explain, what and where is the EGR valve?

Sorry. The EGR valve is the Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve. It looks like a round disc with vacuum lines running in and out of it. I wish I could tell you where it is on a Celica, but I haven't looked at one of those engines in a while. Just keep in mind that it's a likely candidate if the dealer can't find the problem.

it will be close to the butterfly in the TB? anyone have a pic of the celica's TB?

It shouldn't be near the throttle body. Usually the gas is re-routed into the intake manifold not before the thottle body. Sorry I can't be of more help on where it exactly is on the Celica engine.

so the valve should be before or after the TB? sorry for all the questions, but that's pretty much my last one... thanks for the help btw...

It should be after the thottle body. The exhaust gas is routed back into the intake manifold.
