Remember the guy that was killed by street racers last summer in maryland? Well here is an update if anyone cares.

Integra driver charged in drag-racing fatality

A Howard County man turned himself in yesterday to face manslaughter charges in a drag-racing accident that killed a pedestrian.

Richard McHale II, 23, of Laurel was charged in the Aug. 10 death of Chelliah Johnson.

Police said Mr. McHale and another driver were racing their Acura Integras eastbound on Route 198 in Maryland City when Mr. McHale's car struck Mr. Johnson.

Witnesses told police they had seen the Integras' drivers talking while stopped at a traffic light before they started racing about 9 p.m.

Mr. Johnson, 53, was thrown 225 feet when a car slammed into him as he was crossing Route 198 west of Red Clay Road.

Witnesses told police both cars stopped momentarily after impact and then drove off.

Police got a telephone tip Aug. 12 identifying Mr. McHale as the driver who struck Mr. Johnson.

Officers searched Mr. McHale's house and found blood on his white Integra and damage that matched debris found at the scene of the accident, including a broken headlight and damage to the windshield and hood, police said.

Police didn't arrest Mr. McHale at the time, but a county grand jury indicted him Jan. 9 with vehicular manslaughter, participating in a speed contest, leaving the scene of an accident and other traffic charges.

Mr. McHale was not being held at the county detention center this morning. Prosecutors were unable to say whether he had been released on bail after surrendering.

Yeah that was actually debated here greatly over two things...

One: The Dumb asses who were racing
Two: The man who died was jaywalking

Hmm, I bet Richard McHale posts things like this to message boards:

"We all street race, don't deny it."
"I only do it when the roads are clear/late at night/industrial areas/etc."

Sucks to be everyone involved in that case. It's just a matter of time till this guy cops a plea and turns the other driver in. When that happens, the other driver gets nailed with the same charges, but doesn't have anyone to point the finger at...

you said this happend last summer? Did they recently raid his house to find a broken headlight? and blood on his bumper? I mean, not to sound crazy but if that were me, my headlight, front bumper and anything noticable would be changed that night. other than that, darkstar is right. both of them are stupid.

Tracks aren't open 24/7, and some people don't live near any. I wonder what would happen if the driver didn't flee... This is just sad...

Probably but then again if they weren't racing then he never would have hit him. They were both wrong. He shouldn't have fled the scene though, now he is screwed.

That is some crazy ****.

I remember I raced a guy years ago in a pickup truck with a supercharged V8, back when I had my 86 Celica GTS Turbo. Then about a week later I heard the Guy died racing a turbo Volvo. The guy in the Volvo got charged with his death! That could have been me sitting in jail. All because the other guy was driving stupid. Granted we should not have been racing, but the bottom line is you never know if the other guy knows how to drive. And you will get pinned with it. Be Careful guys.

fleeing is what really ****ed him, i bet there would have been a good chance that the murder charge would have been dropped.

He can't be charged with murder. He didn't intentionally go out to run the guy over. He's being charged with manslaughter...as it says in the quoted article.

vehicular homicide isnt out o fthe question as well. But manslaughter is most likely what he will get. Which given the circumstances, I think he will get hit hard.

1) He is asking for death crossing the street without looking...Besides he would of seen the head lights or at least hear the car coming.....
2) well ether way if they are not racing that guy would of still get hit since he doesn't seen to have EYES or Ears...Voom! voom!

Are we still blaming the victim here?

Street racing is wrong, illegal, assinine and just plain STUPID for the obvious reasons.

Anyone who attempts to place any sort of blame on the victim is really wrong.
This make as much sense as blaming a murder victim for being in a bad neighborhood.

well said.

Nobody deserves death. Plain and simple. Could it have been prevented? Quite possibily. However, one would be inclined to say that guy was asking for it cause he was jaywalking on a busy street... THIS NEVER MAKES STREET RACING RIGHT, IT IS ALWAYS WRONG!!!

realize this, anyone here who calls themself a street racer, you are all idiots. even if 'i do it on the safe roads'. THERE ARE NO SAFE ROADS. get a life.

As you mature, one of the things you must learn is, there is a time and place for everything.

The "street" is not the place for racing at any time!
