does anybody know?

judging from what has been floating around this board, yes. The rev limiter is lower, and therefore you cannot take every gear out that much further. It also makes the 1-2 shift harder to land in lift. I really think an area in the 1/4 where the 02 GTS would see the trouble compared to an 01 or 00 is when it is at topend in 3rd gear. it would have to shift at 7800 whereas the 01 can take it out to 8200. Kind of a shame. Makes you wonder why they left the matrix at the 8200 and the GTS dropped to 7800. People can make the argument that the Matrix will not be as aggressively driven and crap like that, but if that is the case, I dont understand why you would put that kind of an engine in the matrix. Toyota really has a good car in the celica, and I just hate to see them doing crap like this. I dont really understand what the excuse would be either. You cant say this would prevent misshifting, because they widened the gates to take care of that. I also dont believe it would help a car if you misshift and it "only" revs to around 11.5K instead of 12K. Just doesn't seem like a smart move on toyota's part. Then again, who knows. A new generation celica could be in the making. And with competition from cars like the 350Z and RX8 possibly being in a similar pricerange, they are gonna have to make the next celica a beast to contend.

Only the USDM 02 Celicas are slower I believe, ask people from other countries whether they have these features for 02 model:

1) Revised shift gate
2) Stiffer shift spring
3) Different ECU to accomodate potentially stupid drivers
4) Mis-shift warning label on glove box.
5) Must step on clutch to start the car(I hate this).

Hey NXS, what are you running at the track with those mods you have? I am planning on doing similar things and I'm just curious.

Thanks,

Fin

P.S. How do you like the headers?

I am actually in california right now for school, and the car is sittin in the garage at home in pittsburgh. Haven't takin it to the track yet with all of the mods. The header is nice, but a BEEEEEATCH to install. car sounds good too. I hope I can get it out to cali before i go back to school in august. I hate sittin here with my car chillin back home. Good luck at the track

you want good answer? ask Ezrida........then ask Raulo. Ezrida has the 6 spd 2002 with an intake...............Raulo has 2001 6 spd intake............the 2001 walks on the 2002 in every gear by a little. but by the end......its all 2001 baby. sucks about the ECU.

would a 02 gts with a cold air intake be able to beat a stock 01 gts?

This is such a load of crap. I got a 2002 last november...and now hearing all this about the 00 and 01 being better? I wish i knew about this rev limiter stuff before I bought mine, I never read anything about it in the mags. Does anyone know toyotas email addy? I cant find it on their web site, I want to dog them till I get some compensation for this monstrosity!

Yes a 02' with CAI will walk a 01' or 02' GT-S. Not immediately, but on top end its amazing. Our race went 1st gear me. Then when I shifted into second he gained back about 1-2 feet and we leveled off. 2nd gear I pulled again and he gained back again. 3rd gear I pull maybe half a car length, once I shift to fourth hes right next to me. In fourth he gets about half way up my car. In 5th I begin to gain cars rappidly.

Now with us both having a CAI its different. He doesn't walk me at all, but he does pull. Through 1st we're dead even. After each gear he gains maybe a foot and then we level out. By 5th I'm at his back bumper. In 5th he starts to crawl away from me.

For the record we both went to the track and ran the same time. I had a bad 60 foot, but the CAI made up for it.

yes ZZT is a dumbass, but its all good. anyways, have you ever been out of the US. You have to know by now that not all cars are the same all over the world. I personally have never driven a car in another country, so i will not make assumptions about the differences, but who is to say that every country requires you to push the clutch to the floor to start the car. Of course, since you are callin everyone else morons, you probably already thought of possible difference between the cars in different countries.

In Europe the 02 celica is the same as the 01 and 00.

And NSX_GTR_LM is right. We don't have to push the clutch to the floor to start the car. We can start the car without even sitting in the car. Just turn the ignision and the engine is running................

Like Yohan said, in most EU cars you do not need to press the clutch to start the car. On the other hand. The 00MRS that I imported form Japan you have to press the clutch to start the car.

Actually alot of cars, like my old VR6 didn't need it, my byds Jetta doesn't need it, my Honda doesn't need it.

Id have to see a 02 celica with a CAI run 14.9 or better at the track to believe this. :)

Hey Johan,
Quick question.
What's the min octance level you have to put in the Celica over there?
I'm thinking of getting my dealer to order in a European ECU. But I got a feeling you guys have higher octance ratings than us....
We have to put in a min of 91, I'm lucky enough to get 94 in Toronto.

Lets just say that 02's like myself will still have the oportunity for the weapR piggyback ecu .... and the blitz s/c . Which i plan on buying ... im callin them monday and askin about when its available and for exact price and of how much.Give it 1 more year and we'll have soo much **** for our cars we wont know what to do ... ex. crower ... s/c .... piggy back ecu ...headers ... and more attention from other manufactures (skunk2). I still get my kicks in the 02 .. and thats all they had when i went up to the dealership. I LOVE MY CAR.
Its still very fast and can hold its own.
My fuel cutoff is at 8000 in first for some reason though and 7800 in 2nd ... then 8000 again in 3rd.

The lowest on the GTE and T-sport ( the US GT-S) is 95. If you are smart overhere you get the 98.

I have the Shell 102 always in my car.............. but that is because I love her.

I'm not sure you can just put in the GTE ECU in a US GT-S.

The US and Canadian cars have a different tuning........ The GT here is 143 hp and the GT-e is 180 hp...........................

The added HP from the intake is not nearly enough to make up the area under the curve advantage the 01 has.

I agree. I think the 02 could be right with the 01 at higher speeds, but in the 1/4 mile, the 02 is not going to catch up.

This was in reply to your comment of

You see, you made an assumption and were proved wrong. Also, try to actually make intelligent responses. There is no room on the board for this garbage:

Making stereotypes and calling the board members retards does not add to the quality of this board. Just for the record, how old are you?

i think u'r pretty much a "dumbass" u'rself

Just look at the way you typed this sentence, and you are questioning my intelligence? Actually, I have been fortunate enough to gain acceptance at a very exclusive undergraduate engineering program, a school called Harvey Mudd College, at which I am finishing my first year. I, unlike yourself, have made no post in this thread to warrant you calling me a dumbass.
