Ok, I bought 2 10's, but they are 4 ohm single voice coils. The amp I'm gonna use is an MTX 280x1 @ 4 ohms. It is 2 ohm stable. Is there any way to wire these subs correctly, or do I need to get 8 ohm subs to run the bridged channel? Thanks..

You can wire them for a 2 ohm load or a 8 ohm load. That's it.

yup.. think I'm gonna go pick up some 8 ohm speakers then. Damn, i can't believe i let that slide...

if the amp is 2 ohm stable why are you going to get new subs?

well what will the power rating be running at 2 ohms?

I was actually considering just running one 10 anyway. That was my original plan until I ran into the buy one get one free deal at Circuit City. I'm not really a basshead, I think one 10 in a sealed box will give me the tight bass I'm looking for to accent the music. Plus the box will be small and easy to remove.

Has anyone noticed the indecisiveness here? :)

Well I have the MTX 6500D which is rated for 250W @ 4ohms and 500W @ 2 ohms. Both with a supplied voltage of 12.5V. Ususally its close to double the wattage when you halve the imedance. I'm running mine at 4 ohms but at around 14V since thats what my electrical system produces. So I'm getting around 500 Watts since the tested power on the amps birthsheet at 12.5V @ 4 ohms was 398W :). MTX underrates their amps.

Yeah I know.. I have the MTX with 280 @ 4 ohms.. I just checked the box and it said not to hook up 2 4ohm speakers on teh bridged channel. Here is what it said:

With 2 8ohm speakers in parallel, the total load is 4 ohms on the bridged channel. This equates to 2 ohms/channel, which is why your amp says "2ohm stable".

With 2 4ohm speakers in parallel, the total load is 2 ohms on the bridged channel which equates to 1ohm/channel (not safe). Two 4ohm speakers in series gives a total load of 8ohms, which is 4ohms/channel. This would give half the power, so not efficient.

So.. looks like I'm gonna either get 2 8ohm speakers or just go with my original plan to use only 1 10.

Fun stuff..
