so i walk past my car on the way to class this morning and i look over to see that my driver side window was left open. Actually, when i looked closer, it was smashed. glass everywhere, i cut my hand in 5 places brushing the glass of my seat (stupid move by me), and i looked around to see what was stolen. i don't even have a system or anything, the guy took my ****ty radar detector, that's worth just about nothing, didn't take my tennis racket that actually has value. this is the first time this has happened to me, is it even worth it to report this? i already brought it in to toyota, they quoted the damage at 95 bux. i'm pretty pissed off and i hope that guy gets what he deserves one day.

$95? damn your dealership has the window for cheap...when my car got broken into (driver's window too), the quote for the part was $220. Of course, I reported it to my insurance and it ended up being $2100 worth of damage...

dammit, i knew it was too good, the dealership called backk and said the price to repair is closer to 450! i don't think the person who looked at it at first knew what she was talking about

How would one go about "waisting" time? :wtf:

At any rate, Someone broke into my truck back in the early 90's in a crowded mall parking lot in broad daylight with the alarm blaring. All they stole was my backpack, which contained a couple of books and some paint/paint brushes (I was an art major). They didn't even touch my CD changer, radio, speakers, sunglasses, etc...morons. :thumbdown

I would report it to your insurance company.
If you car was legally parked when this happened they should not raise your insurance.

I would first report the break in/vandelism to the police so you can give a copy of the police report to your insurance company.
BTW, there is no need to mention the radar dector. ;)

Check your policy as many have a no dedutable window glass clause in which case it wont cost you a thing.

Yeah this happened just after i was told about how the crime rate north of campus (where i live) is steadily rising. wow, i wasn't aware of that clause,i'll probably look into that. i'm with allstate btw if anyone else knows more about this. thanks for the info.

The glass clause is sometimes not covered in cases like this, because the glass broke due to vandalism, which is covered under the vandalism clause and it carries a deductible.
Good way to get the most out of your claim and have the car 100% as it was: check your interior. I could've just let Geico have its way and give me a check for $150 ($650 - $500 ded.) but I noticed scratches and scuffs on my door panels and seats. They replaced both door panels, reimbursed for a seat cover, center console refinishing and labor.

oh ok, yeah since the damage is in the low 400's with a 500 deductible, i think i'm just going to pay it out of my pocket, there's no damage to the seats or anything else so i don't think i'll get anything out of claiming it.

too bad the car alarm that shoots flames out the side isn't legal here.

Happened to me too, sux, sorry to hear that.. but I had a lot more taken...

Insurance company will only cover things that come from the factory or was in a factory location, ie. Aftermarket HU inplace of the stock. So they won't cover the radar detector. And like someone else said, you still need to pay your deductible, and the $95 I don't think is over yours. And wow, your dealer is giving you a good price on glass.

Just to correct, i mentioned a few posts down that the 95 bux was the preliminary estimate by the idiot lady who had no real idea how much it would cost. The price is going to be over 400, 220 for glass, ~200 in labor.

I don't know what pisses me off the most, 400 dollars gone, 5 cuts on my hand, being without a car, being late for my first day at work, or screwing up an exam the next day

To be honest with you, just buy the glass from the dealer. You can install the glass yourself. Do a search on how to install speakers (to take out the door panel) and the rest is self explanatory...3 bolts hold the glass in place.

see how much you can get the window for at a junk yard and replace it yourself

i got a windshield for 80 bucks

There is an install guide for autoglass from a service manual i think in the repair and maintenance section. I remember seeing it when I was thinking about doing it myself.

as much as i would like to try to do it, i'm in school right now, i only have street parking, no garage to work in, it's snowing, and i don't have time, the car needs a window before it starts snowing again, so unfortunately i gotta soak up this cost.. thanks for the ideas though, really wish i could do this myself and save money
