View Full Version : The (IMHO) very mature letter I emailed to Blitz-NA

this will no doubt warrant a form letter from them but nonetheless this is how it went:

To whom it may concern:

Blitz North America will soon start selling its Celica Supercharger Kit in the United States. To this I say bless you! This kit will undoubtedly be the shot in the arm that the 7th gen Celica aftermarket needs. However, upon reviewing your site associated with the United Kingdom, I can't help but be a little worried. I understand that the standard of living is higher in the UK, in turn causing higher pricetags for every item purchased there. I also understand that the rough conversion rate for the kit ends up being an astronomical seven thousand dollars. Now, after seeing the difference in price between the UK's Supra single turbo conversion and the US', I am a bit relieved. Please understand though, that even the ratio of difference still leaves the kit at roughly 5500 dollars, still far beyond many enthusiasts' budgets. Exclusivity is one issue, price gouging is another. Sure it would be nice to have one of a hundred supercharged Celicas in the nation, but I would sacrifice that exclusivity (as would most others, I'm sure) to have the price in the same ballpark as the comparable Vortech kit for the Civic Si. I say comparable in power return, which I now wish to address in a much shorter paragraph.
Please do not short us on power output. Emissions restraints surely do not necessitate a twenty horsepower reduction in total output. 260 horsepower in the JDM kit versus 240 HP in the UK kit? Does that mean the US will see even less, as we usually do? Say 230 or even 220? I am no business major, in fact I am a communications major who hopes to at one point have a Public Relations career in the import industry (internships, anyone?), but it is only common sense that makes one see that a $4000 dollar kit (or less) will sell circles around a 7,6,or even $5000 dollar setup.
Please give me some good news. Whether you browse internet message boards or not, I don't know, but should you direct your interest towards www.newcelica.org you will see the uproar this is causing.

Thank you for reading my sincere and honest albeit longwinded plea,

Josh Poole

Seems a bit premature since they haven't priced or spec'd the kit here yet. :)

BIG misconception re the standard of living in the UK. Its pricier here because the government are a bunch of self serving chinless **** wads and the average british person really seems to enjoy getting ****ed over.

WutARyd,
Well said. Hopefully, Blitz USA has their ears open and listens to eager Celi enthusiasts like yourself. Good job.

i don't think i was kissin anybody's ass...if anything i was being critical of their money grubbing ways...everybody knows how all the import **** works, and I've been in the scene since Jacnife F-24s were introduced...anybody remember those? anyways, aftermarket manufacturers are greedy assholes and they justify by saying, if our stuff was too high, people wouldn't buy it. Well, I guarangoddamntee that if kids would stop hittin up mom for da phat azz new Focuz intake, or da Maxspeed Universal Muffler wit da phiznatty dual 5" tips, we would be buying our S/C kit for cost tomorrow. So is life...

Since I am planning on getting the supercharger when it comes out, I would definately like to see it come out for $4,000, but I don't think that is a fair price for the kit. Am I the only person who thinks that the kit is actually worth more than $5,500? I mean, look at every thing that it comes with. You get the compressor, an intercooler, an intake, an ECU, all the necessary plumbing, and a new intake manifold, plus they need to cover the costs for their R&D.

Still, If they came out for the kit for $4,000 I would be one happy customer!

Agreed. The intercooler, and especially the ECU (which took lots of R&D time to tune, I'm sure) make this a better deal than people think, but the cheaper it is, the better.

what about the gains though, for 240hp?? 7k? that seems like alot of money for 60 hp.

Here we go again with the 7K nonsense. NoCeliYet, please read the first post of this thread: http://www.newcelica.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11756

plus its a whole lot more than 60 hp. The 240 hp rating that the blitz SC gives you is rated at the wheels, not the crank.

I think that you may have acted prematurely. Didn't someone already do a price comparison between the other kits for US and British pricing. The price will be ok if they use the same kind of pricing difference.
