They were female and/or couldn't operate the clutch+shifter+gas pedal at the same time?

Wanted a stick, but was warned against the whole mis-shifting thing that wouldnt be covered under warranty, plus some issues with the clutch from what I read on a diff celica board.

a) didn't know how to drive a stick
b) parents bought me the car, and told me to get a stick
c) the silver one that was at the dealership was an auto

P.S. I WANT A STICK DAMMMMMMNITTT

Well, its my first car and i really wanted a manual... but my parents screwed me over on the whole first car deal... they wouldnt let me get a manual cause in case they had to drive the car, the wouldnt be able to cause they only drive automatic. And guess what... they barely ever drive my car because they get back aches since it is so low. lol
so at least it has sport shifting. but i do wish it was a 6 speed celica gts

Parents surprised me with the car. They picked an '01 Silver GTS to replace their Silver 5th gen celi, and then they gave it to me. I love the car (but I still want to convert it to stick).

When I was in the market for buying a new car I wanted a relaible daily driver with stunning looks that would turn heads. I also wanted it to be quick (not fast, I said quick) so I bought the Auto GT-S. I've never tried to be the fastest or brag about my fast ride. I drove stick for almost 5 years before I bought the celica and I was sick of it. I'm not a street racer just someone who enjoys driving. Thats why I bought my Auto GTS and I have never regretted it. All you haters can go cry next to your burnt clutches.

The reasoning for me is very simple.
I like to have a two door car that takes me from point A to point B, and I don't want a fast car. I am half retired already, why rush from point A to point B?!?!
Celica turns out to be a VERY good looking car, and fit my taste.

haha this thread is funny, i always wondered the same thing. my family's so into manual trans. that my mom was looking for a manual minivan (our 88 toyota actually is). my cousin bought an auto 350z so he could start the engine from remote. He still gets laughed at by the family.

I need more answers. I'm thinking of doing a 6-speed to auto conversion.

Tien's 00celica

My reason/story.

When the Celica first came out in late '99 I went and test drove a silver 6 speed and fell in love with it but could not afford it at the time.

Fast forward to '01, the tranny went on my '90 Laser and I needed a car bad and could finally afford a Celica. So I went back to the dealership to buy one, only problem, they only had one (the one I now have) and it was a used '00 auto. Well I wanted a 6 speed like the one I test drove but they said that it would take 3+ months to get one ordered and I didn't have that kind of time so I said **** it and bought the auto.
As much as I hate driving autos, I still love my Celica, but I would give her up in a heart beat for a 6 speed.

Having a manual doesn't mean you have to drive fast. In fact, it might even be the opposite, b/c in an auto all you have to think about is mashing the gas. When I learned how to drive stick for the first time, I was actually more cautious and felt no need to rush, especially after stopping. But yea, I drive an auto gt and its not that fun, except the handling factor.

I bet some people fell for the sport shift gimmick and actually thought it was as good as a manual!

Sh!t I wish my parent would have bought me a 20k+ car, I've had to buy all of mine, except for my '70 Impala that my dad handed down to me.

my girlfriend at the time wanted to drive it too.

i added a trubo kit modified the tranny & torque convertor.

i guess that kinda makes up for the 6 speed.
