View Full Version : Doh! Alignment out of whack

So, things seemed to be good Sunday morning (I don't recall any issues Saturday night or Sunday AM going to the site), but by 6 runs in, heading to lunch Sunday the car was pulling and the steering wheel cocked to the side.

We ran 6 more runs Sunday afternoon.

Last night I used my $40 camber gauge and confirmed that the camber on the passenger front wheel was bad.

Today at the alignment shop my measurements were verified.

Drivers front: -2 degrees
Passenger front: -0.4 degrees

Looks like I better check the crash bolt torques more often.

All is well now.

For all I know the aligment went out of spec during the Saturday school, I was tired and may not have noticed.

Mine has never moved. We use lots-O-torque

Maybe you should have left it that way, Sally didn't seem to mind those specs! ;)
Thanks for all the kind words about Donna's car, evidently we guessed well at the settings, with considerable help from you and Aaron!
I finally was "ALLOWED" to drive it for the first time on two fun runs, and about equalled my best runs in the Miata (but as poorly as I drove the Miata that day, that isn't saying much...).
The GT was a LOT easier to drive on the slippery, gritty course than the Miata.
If I didn't need the class championship points next Sun, I'd be tempted to leave the Miata home. I hope they announce a winter series or two soon. :D :D :D

Mine has never been a problem either, not sure why it slipped this time.

When we installed the struts we set things close and tightend them down (to spec according to my Craftsman wrench). When I went to the alignment shop, it turns out we got the drivers side spot on and the passenger side needed tweaking (by 0.2 degrees).

The shop always just uses the impact wrench to torque the bolts, and it has never failed before. Maybe their line pressure was off or the wrench is going bad.

I'll verify their torques (at or more than spec) tonight.

Since we use the same alignment shop, I'd better check ours too.

Mine has never moved either. I don't excactly know how tight the chrash-bolts are on my car.

Set at max (150ft lbs), my torque wrench still wouldnt click. Its way to tight, but hey, if it ain't broke i ain't fixin' it.
