Hi there,

Although I'm probably in the wrong place, I figure since the engines are the same, the break in's should be the same.

I own a Matrix XRS with the Celica's own 1.8, 180 HP engine and a 6 speed manual. How should I break in my car?

I've read all the basics from various web sites but no one has anything just for this engine. Do I need to break it in? Should I do anything special with my tranny/engine?

Should I also replace my tranny fluid with synthetic ASAP? I've burned the clutch while first driving the car (heck, I peeled out of the dealership!) and I've been practising in an parking lot on driving the 'beast' (this is from a guy who drove a mini-van for 6 years). Should I be watching for anything special as my tranny wears out? I don't smell anything anymore from my burning clutch, but I know I fried it so I'm looking at changing it.

Thanks for the help!

Peeling out of the parking lot on a new clutch is bad for the car. The clutch should see at least 500 miles of granny-style driving (no full throttle launches, high rpm shifts, no peeling out, etc).

The engine, follow the manual, take it easy for around 1000 miles. Put synthetic oil after around 6000 miles. You can do the same for the gear oil if you want to also.
