Prelude vs GTS on video

i've been advertising the new racing video site i got up so heres the story behind the prelude vs 2 celica gts race. I met up with the guys at grapevine mills for the celica meet. Really cool guys, we all got along, then I headed out with 2 of the modded ones. Both filter/exhaust/butterfly valve removed.

These drivers were wayyyy better than the one in the other video you can find on my page. We concluded that the prelude and gts are pretty much identical in performance on a roll. You can see me vs the black one but I had an extra passenger so we agreed it was a tie assuming equal weight. Off the line though the prelude has more torque and is pretty much faster in the 1/4 if you know how to launch it. Anyways 4 races in all, enjoy :)

I agree to what you say, up to the point where you say the prelude will take the GTS off the line...........funny how i see GTS's getting 2.1 and 2.2 60ft times all the time, and i never see any better than that from preludes. Also, i know the GTS is faster 0-60 than the prelude.

What mods do you have? the GTS having a filter really robs it of the power it could have if he had a CAI...........though if you dont have a intake then it would be right.

I read at superhonda.org and you are considered one of the best Lude drivers there are.

Try to race against the best celica drivers like billyburn (14.15) or micronrice and you'd see celica taillights all the way to the end of the 1/4 :)

I dont' see why you think the Lude is faster than the celica in the 1/4. How many I/H/E ludes are faster than a 14.5?

Nice driving guy... however I would be inclined to disagree with you on the Prelude vs Celica 1/4 mile business. I had two Prelude owners drive my ex-GT-S 6spd and they both agreed that it would smoke their 5th gen 'Ludes (one has even lost two races to me). Now, the Prelude is a great car, but it is only really faster after about 90/100mph. it is a freeway demon.

all the time?? hell no.. barely anyone has hit a 2.1 and a seldom few have hit 2.2.. most people run 2.4 or 2.3 if there lucky..

after looking at a lot of those videos, it looks like you launched from a roll... In the first video w/ the celica, he moves up and stops, you move up but don't stop... and then launch. I noticed this same technique vs. the ITR and a few of the other ones. There was one race w/ the 2 celicas where it looked like you launched from a stop stop though and didn't have as big of a lead as you did w/ your rolling starts. That's just what I noticed after watching them a bunch of times.

What kind of times do you turn out at the 1/4 strip? I think those would be more accurate than street races (where anything can happen)

those some sweet ass vids man, that red gts is hella slooooowwwwwww, but i would think that the black one gts would do better if it had a cai jus like u do. but i also heard that ur one of the best lude drivers out there, also saw one of ur other vids a while back when u launched at 6k and power shifted at 8k...it was pretty sweet.

once he was on here arguing with slasherx and blkSS about beating 2000 mustang GTs and he said he runs 14.5s.
actually almost positive about that.

edit: oh my gosh, I just watched that video.. that's so sad. the jump that prelude LC got on that celica looks just like the jump that Jif's WRX got on me when we raced. LOL

I agree about his launching techniques. He rolls up just a bit before the light turns green and jumps his opponents. But that ITR reeled him in regardless. But I might try that technique myself on the street :D

The only problem is that it doesn't work at the track, where r/T is what really matters.

And that Prelude has ran a best of 14.7 @94mph at Ennis, I believe.

it seems like you always get em off the line, no matter what car your racing.. i mean DAMN.. and what the hell was with that red Celica.. I was wondering if he broke something becuz of how fast he dropped back..

that red celica might've been an auto...but i dunno, he spins the tires from one video which an auto GTS can NOT do. it can scrape sometimes, but not squeal.

in one of the races there's a car in the red celica's lane so that explains that one, but the others...

I launched my car at 7k rpm, and when I slip it, it goes down to 6100rpm and I launch in VVTL-i. My cousin who taught me this did the same on his Prelude. He launch at 7000 and when he slip, he's at 5700rpm. His Prelude is even with me, he has Intake/Dual Exhaust, 18's, and Black Widow Bodykit and my car is stock back then. It's all about the driver. My cousin is a good drive if he can keep up me with all that accessories he has. But then again, maybe I just suck at driving.

its impossible that you launch your car at 7000.. the rev limited for when the car is in neutral kicks in at 6800..

Umm, not me. I can rev to 8300 rpm, even bounce limiter in neutral. But when I rev up, I don't put it in neutral, I put it in first gear and hold the clutch down.

OK, I'm surpised this thread is still alive. I never posted b/c i couldn't get my password while this post 1st went up. I'll say that both those celicas are members of the board, but i dont know if they come here any more. I'll keep their identities hidden until they come into this post. Well i was in the red celica during the races, and it isn't an auto BUT he did bog down really really really badly, and i don't know if he drag races often enough to practice his launches. Also i drive a gs-r and yes its slower then a gt-s BUT i was very surprised on how little power it had right before 6k, then it jumped while in a gsr you just hear vtec. First gear took forever, but that was probably b/c of bogging down very badly.

99Prelude_LC, can't you get any more vids of those races? we raced for like an hour or something going back and fourth the exact same road! and i know there were more races that was closer with the red celica. Also the guy in the red misshifted alot on the 1-2 shift, that why 99prelude_lc put that "doh" sound in.

anyways, i think if you were up against a gt-s with a CAI, along with that exhaust, plus a kick ass driver, you woulda lost, cause from that roll, that filter charged celly took ya. those guys just arent very good at launching, or shifting for that matter, no offense but whoever the dude in the black 6 spd at least shoulda been at your door, creeping from those launches. you are a good driver i can tell that much. the only thing i dont neccesarily belive in is slipping your clutch and kinda jumping the gun. oh and your site is kick ass. :D

u said it was equal weight?....lol you have MORE weight in the first place than the two celica's and u still beat em lol...1) those drivers couldn't drive worth dong....2) prolly didn't land the 1-2 shift, and 3) that black celica was pulling on u in the first vid b4 it got cut off so...it woulda caught up=D...no matter what, nice vids and keep them coming!
