i was racing a civic hatch back today and it happened...
i was around 5900 rpm on fourth gear and i threw it up to 3rd gear. the rpm shot up to 9000... =(
the car was running fine but i still took it to the dealer. i hope nothing is wrong with my car...
p.s. i beat the hatch back....

...if you went up into 3rd but missed, you'd either hit 5th or FIRST. i thought it was impossible to misshift into first without rev matching? how'd you do it?

Good luck. Prolly killed the life of your 3rd gear synchro. Hopefully no engine damage though.

ah i geddit, you misshifted INTO third.
nd4spd did the same exact thing, and his RPMs also shot up to 9000 but his car was acting up and yours is runnin fine. he got the tranny replaced, but the engine was also damaged (but the dealer didn't fix the engine). so regardless, make sure your dealer checks out both transmission and engine completely now otherwise you'll have lots of problems.

Plese double check the numbers on your post so I don't continue to think that you are an idiot.
First, you were racing a civic = idiot
Second, you were doing this somewhere other than a track = idiot
Third, You shifted at 5900 rpm in a race = idiot
(the power doesn't start until 6000 rpm)
Third, 5900 rpm in 4th gear (as you claim) is only 7500 rpm in 3rd gear. You can't over rev the engine with that shift, it isn't even a misshift, you should have STILL BEEN IN THIRD at that speed (80 mph).
Again, help me understand, please?

Hmmm... Now that I re-read it..Did you intentionally downshift it? It would seem logical to downshift if you were going under 84 mph. Now Im confused. .... Your not telling us everything...Or just no accurately.

got my car back from the dealer and they said nothing seemed wrong. after i got it back from the dealer i drove it around for about twenty mins. and nothing seemed wrong. my lift is still working so i guess nothing is wrong.
now for the racing civic thing...
i was in fourth gear about to hit lift. i decided to stop racing because there was no point to it. i was beating him really badly so right before i was about to hit lift, i shifted to fifth or atleast i tried to. thats wat happened and the rpm hitting 9k, did happen, i saw it shoot up to 9k. i poped into neutral as soon as i can but it did go up to 9k.
Also, wat's wrong with racing a civic hatch back? the car had a nice rim, a nice kit on the back (not front) , and those things have a lot of potentials. The street which i was racing in was emty. it was just me and the civic.

If the civic hatch was stock, it would have been a waste of gas and rubber.
But you know about those hatch's. They are notorious for having engine swaps and whatnot and being extremely hardcore nasty sleepers.
like they said the numbers don't add up......

if i'm not mistaken, i believe fourth comes after third. not third again. :talkative

hey larry how fast would he have been going if he redlined through the first 3 and then shifted at 5900 in 4th... i'm guessing somewhere close to 90... thats a pretty high cruising speed...

5900 rpm in 4th gear is 80 mph unless you ave really odd sized tires.
It will be 80 mph today, 80mph tomorrow, and 80mph if you are racing, also 80mph if you are driving like a granny.
If the race was over as this guy shifted out of 4th, the he still races like a grandma.
Of course that makes an ass whuppin even better, "I beate you by short shifting at 6000 rpm in every gear).
The point is, if he was racing, then he still should have been in 3rd at 80 mph.
Whatever.
My d*ck is bigger then the guys next to me, I know it is, I don't need to try and prove it.
Street racing is one of those things that I just don't get. Also, if you are trying that crap around me on the highway, and I have the chance, I'll run you off the road and not think twice about it. Better to kill you than have you kill me.

No doubt. Chasing them down running them off the road is more dangerous in my book then the actual race. And wouldn't that be hypocritical and endangering more people? including yourself? You need rationale thinking my friend..

yea some hatchbacks are dangerous.
Swapped engine + light weight car = fast and furious

Depends on what year the Civic Hatchback was, if it's 96 and up, it's rare to get an engine swap. If it's 90-95, most likely it has an engine swap.

I never said anything about chasing anyone down.
You see when I drive, I use my mirrors *and* look ahead. If I see some punks doing stupid things (in my mirror) I can make my car seem awfully wide at the right times.

HEHE.. awfully wide Eh? leading to what... catastrphic injury or maybe death due to evasive maneuvers required by the trailing car to avoid the unavoidable occurance of an accident that could've been easily avoided had you not chosen the path of the devil in the confrontation...
but i could be wrong..

Every one knows that those who are to slow to get out of the way cause accidents.
Kidding.
Any ways, I love street racing, in my book it

While I disagree with Scott on his reaction street racing does not demonstrate the pinnacle of maturity either.

AutXr i think you need counceling for your anger management, and sporatical outrageous claims against people. Too much bad kharma. As a child did someone run over your dog racing??? I'm sorry kiddies did I bother you?
I'll freely admit my opinions are not in line with many of yall, but I like to illustrate with extreme examples.
There are too many punks and idiots on the road as it is, I am certainly not going to sit here and say "cool dude" when some one brags about being one of those idiots.
I'm glad you all think it is out of line for me to say I'll run a dumb ass off the road, why aren't you getting on the folks that think they are God's gift to the world, and they street race because they do it "safely". Yeah, and I make sure not to drink and drive when other folks are around.
As for the women, no I don't get many I have a wife of 5 years who I love very much (and funny thing, she love me too).
When we want our thrills out of the bedroom, we autocross together. Our last event she finished 7th overall (I got 10th). It was the best race of my life, my wife finally got the best of me!
Believe me, a girl will be much more impressed if you taker her to an autocross and when than if you taker her street racing and kill her.

If your story is accurate then it certainly couldn't be construed as bragging, quite the opposite. ;)

Make sure .....I repeat MAKE SURE the dealer does not rebuild motor or tranny make sure they replace all------after mine was supposedly fixed.... It wound up having massive valve problems causing the engine to blow again now its been 8 weeks and im still waiting for the parts to come in do to back orders but the engine is being replaced entirely along with tranny and computer and im rollin the rental car just make sure you dont decide to leave it as it is because this can cause a massive hurt to you later on dont try to avoid it it will cost you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:shocked
