My gf may purchase a 2000 Plymouth Neon LX tomorrow with 47k miles on it. I was wondering what you guys knew about reliability w/ these cars.
Also, I'm not interesting in comments about style/performance etc. She already test drove it and is happy on those fronts. I just want to make sure she's not going to get a car that will cost her more in repairs than it's worth.

oh boy......she'll regret it. Most Chrysler vehicles are nice to look at and it is nice to drive as well. But, when it comes to reliability , it's worse then Hyundais. Neons are known for Air conditioner and Transmission breakdowns and other numerous electrical problems. Also their paint peels off as well. I used to sell cars and trust me, I know. If it's 2000 model you're looking at, you're better off with civics and corollas although it'll cost you more for now. I currently drive my winter vehicle, 91 corolla with 180K and everything still works like new.

Let's not bash all Chryslers. Neons do have a bad reputation, however my '98 Dodge Stratus has been "almost" trouble free since it was new.
The only reason I say almost is because there's been a problem with the back windows getting stuck and not rolling down. Other than that there has been no engine problems in the 60,000 miles I've had it.
I've known two Neon owners personally. One had no problems in the two or so years he had the car. The other friend had nothing but trouble and said she'd never buy another Chrysler.
