My sub current setup:

2x Boston Acoustics Competitor Series 10" subs at 2ohms each
(Recommended Amplifier Power: 50w - 850w)

1x Alpine MRV-1507 amp
(RMS Power: 900 x 1 @ 4ohm, 450 x 2 @2ohm, etc)

1x Phoenix Gold 1F cap

I'm thinking about upgrading the subs to
2x Boston Acoustics Pro Comtetitor 12" subs at 2ohms each
(Recommended Amplifier Power: 50w - 1200w)

One downside is I will have to double the size of my enclosure from 1 cubic foot to 2 cubic feet. (Or am I completely wrong about that) The only thing I'm worried about is the amplifier output. How do you guys think the Alpine amp will match the new subs? Also, do you think I'd need another cap or perhaps a BATcap?

Note that BA doesn't list the Pe values for their subs ont eh website and I don't have the manual with me.

Only problem I can see would be airspace, but not twice as much. In fact some speakers will work within a range of different volumes in a sealed box and sound well. If the box is a bandpass or ported enclosure, it will need to be as close to proper as possible .

Yeah, besides air space issues, power might be an issue. Sure, BA says the sub will work with in the certain power range, but the RMS wattage will give you the best results. Any power over the RMS is just extra. But under powering a sub can be a killer. I would check the RMS on the subs first. Also, those Alpine numbers you gave don't seem right. Those are probably the numbers at 14.4V. The numbers I found for 12V were almost half those values. Double check the power.

From experience ( llllllloooooooooonnnnnnngggg term), BA speakers are power hungry. Everything from the components to subs like tons of power. I have a pro 6.5 set I bought back in 92 ( the good ones with the titanium domed tweeters) that I had 200 watts per side going to and they still sound better than my new Focal polykevlars do even with being 12 years old!!!

Wouldn't I use the values for 14.4v? I thought thats what our cars were.

Yeah, our cars are at 14.4 volts, but a better measure is at 12 volts. Sometimes the 14.4 volt numbers are a bit off. I just prefer using the 12 volt numbers.
