Hey Guys,

New to the site. Currentlly a member over at matrixowners.com and am looking to make the move to a Celica.

Basically, I am looking to trade in my 2003 Matrix, for an '01 or '00 Celica GT. From the looks of things, it may end up being about an even trade give or take 1k or 2k.

If anyone has any thoughts on these models or how much I should expect to pay (besides from what edmunds says), for a pretty well equipped Celica, please feel free!

Otherwise, if this does happen, expect to see me around, as I have about 3,400 post on matrix owners currently!!!!

Unless you plan on boosting it, I'd go with a GT-S...

That is about what I was expecting.

The dealer where I got this car is very honest (which dealers arent), but they are pretty much on key on price. So, that is about what I was expecting.

When I got this car, I did a good months worht of research before I went in there and had all my numbers from carbuyingtips.com and edmunds, and they were right with me on the numbers.

I am not looking to boost it, and can't afford a GTS, thanks though.

Looking forward to the Celica!

Now to find some parts!!

Anyone selling or know where I can find a TRD CAI and or exhaust?

never driven any other celica then my own i am also a new owner of a celica i have an 04 though and it runs really smooth i love it . i heard that 00-01 though had a lot of mechanical problems though . i am not an exspert i am just passing along what people tell me . all i know is defienetly go for the celica. my b/f payed like 18,000 for his 02 so it should be less then that for an 01 or an 00 hey etleast you will still have money in your pockets .

That is what I forgot to ask,

What known problems are there with these years?

Can anyone point me to any info or anything?

An 00-01 GT should probably be around 10k in great condition, and a GT-S isn't much more. I would hope you'd get more back on the trade in than just 1-2k. How many miles does it have? Auto, manual, AWD? XR or XRS?Originally posted by BabyCelicaGurl2
i heard that 00-01 though had a lot of mechanical problems though.Mechanical problems caused by inexperienced/careless drivers misshifting. Almost all of the same problems that occured in the 00 Celicas happen in the 04s.Originally posted by BabyCelicaGurl2
my b/f payed like 18,000 for his 02 LOL, he's got an 02? You're getting closer to beating him. ;)

I have a base, or 1zz and already have 25,8xx on the car.

I am expecting to break even or gain 1 or 2k on the trade. Either way I am more than likely going to do it.

LoL you're perspective is coming from someone who would be upgrading from a Celica not from a 1zz matrix
:chuckles:

Yes, those cars are fast, but I could care less for any of them.

I don't see the point of trading a brand-new Matrix 1ZZ for a older Celica 1ZZ, ... but welcome to the site

Thanks,

Yeah, I guess it is for the mere fact of having a Celica. Don't know, I guess that is it.

For an fairly even trade I dont see why not.

The one that I was looking at was an '00 and had the same amount of miles my car has on it now, and I have only had my car since the end of march of last year. I don't see where the age is going if it is like that?

you can find a GTS for around that, its sooo much more of a car if you arent goin to run a turbo

If your going to get one get a GT-S. I'm surprised you would trade your 03 for a used celica.

I consider this an upgrade REGUARDLESS if it is an '03 and I am going to an '00 or '01.

At the moment I have a BASE model Matrix.

Meaning ALL I have is cruise control. No power anything!

I don't see the big deal.

I am almost shocked that this board would be so anti celica.

From the sounds of it you guys don't want me to get Celica.

If I said I was going to get a GTS, I would have said that in my original post.

I wonder if some of you guys can read? I don't mean to be harsh, but c'mon?! This IS a celica board right???

Its just confirmation and there is really no need to be so harsh, I just said I was suprised..........(its not anti-celica) just realistic thinking, New car > used car.

In the past 4 years I went from a 02 Jeep Wrangler -
(uncomfortable ride and bad gas mileage)
to a 98 Audi S4 -
(The more nifty doohickys you have - the more sh*t can go wrong with em')
to a 99 integra
(ex fiancee picked this car out for me - gave it the boot with her)
to my 00 GT-S
(This one is the keeper)

So if you aren't losing much in value in a trade go get the Celica. Alot of people on this board may just have had their car too long to appreciate it. The value of a car is in what you are looking for out of it not just a price tag.

I'm not sure what you plan on doing with the Celica but since you are inquiring to its overall reliability I'm getting the impression you aren't gonna dump thousands of dollars for the HP gains so yea the GT is a great buy!

My 2 cents

Cool, yeah, sorry to be harsh like I said, but I was just expecting a different response from this board than some of the posts. Yeah, so sorry, all of that wasn't directly aimed at you.

Yes, I am NOT going to turbo it or any of the above, maybe put a CAI, or exhaust on it is about the extent of what I will be doing.

It is more about getting a celica as they are more "me" than the matrix, and since I won't really be losing or gaining any money on the deal, it seems like a no brainer to me or anyone for that matter.

my friend has a 6-spd xrs, and he's had an auto gts celica before... i can see what u mean. he said its more fun driving the celica and the matrix is somewhat of a downgrade even though it'd be faster than the celica.

at any rate.. i would try to find a gts.. if you dont like your current engine in your matrix u probalby wont like it in the celica. theres not that much of a difference. i own a gt. if you arent going to turbo it or anything like that seriously get a gts.

extra power is nice and so is the powerband. if you cant afford it yet, save up; it'll be worth it.

Keep the matrix and drop the TRD supercharger on it.

The car is likely to be close in actual speed and you have already bought the matrix. You may be getting a few more power goodies like windows etc but you can always add those aftermarket. I would rather have the Matrix than the Celica. There is a s/c from TRD for the Matrix and none for the Celica. There is also more room in the Matrix. and you are loosing money trading a newer car in on an older car. Not to be mean or anything but the trade just doens't make sense.
