I think it's time we went back to organizing meets at convenient locations, easy to get to without the hassle of tossing frrom parking lot to parking just looking for the meet crew and staring at rides for the better of 2 hours with food being the only resolution to constant boredom.

I'm not so sure about the rules. But I don't think you need to replace your rotors because of rust. You should look at mine. It works just fine. Don't spend money on something you don't need unless you just want it for show. Chances are if the rotors are bigger than stock, it's going to bump you into a higher class. I'm also assuming your car is not stock and modded with the common bolt on's like i/h/e and maybe coilovers/spring & aftermarket shocks...yada yada, that would most likely land you in STS like many of the pocket rockets out there. I'd say give it a try first and then see what you want to do. And just bear in mind, after one try at autox event and if you come to ask me if you need to buy this or that, I'll still tell you not to. Don't need to apply band-aide for lack of skills. Better to root out your mistakes with what you already have in the car.

I autoxed last season with a stock celica and 17s (the most stupidest thing to do...) and did quite ok. This season, I'm only going to put on a cai, rear ST sway, TRD 3pt rear strut bar and maybe a front lower cusco strut. I think that would be enough. Note that the celica, stock, out of the box is already quite competitive when some sticky tires are put on.

I have faith in you guys that are willing to try out autox. I don't know much but I'd be willing to help out as much as I can. And plus you'd be surprised at how friendly some people are at the autox and their willingness to give pointers.

Bottom line, don't worry about your car. As long as it's running and nothing is staying on the car with the help of tape, you're fine.

the thing is that my whole rotor was covered in rust and alot of it. then i took them out, when to pepboys and got them shaved for about $8 a rotor. now acouple months later, te middle of the rotor (where the pad touches the rotor) are still getting rusty. looks like there are small grooves in the rotor. so i can't shave them again cuz it want be under safety specs. so i need new rotors. one way or the other

How many sets of wheels do you have? If you only have 1 set of wheels, then get something that's all seasons perhaps. Or you can buy some S03s, they are pretty good in the dry and good in the wet. But I sure don't know about winter time. If you have another set of weels, then maybe you can put some Falken Azenis in 205 or 215s on the stock 16s.

yeah you're right about the CR's. Damn near everyone's putting them on their APR kits. :furious: But I am so in love with them. At the very least no one has them in GM (that I have seen) and I don't plan on getting them wide or in any kind of crazy offset. It won't look like the way it does in the pic. The lip would probally be about an inch or less, depending on the available offset. And the VOLK's are tried but true, I've always loved them, and you hardly see any of them in full gunmetal (no lip) on the celica. That's what I figured on the SSR's, but they look so fuggin mean! ahhh decsions, but I got a year too decide! :thumbup: thanks mike.

Mike, go for the S03s then. I have seen people autox with them and they do fine. And when it rains, you'll be gripping and most likely get better times than people that are on slicks or azenis. Bridgestone and Yokohama tires are always pricey. And some of the models they have are way over priced for rubber that don't grip.

Everyone starts somewhere. And you never know, you might be one of those people that are a natural to picking things up. Whether it's autox or not, looking stupid is a given on the first time. As long as you're willing to learn and accept inputs from others. What I can tell you is this, usually the dumb asses that do burnouts and try to drift at the end of the course are the ones that look stupid. You don't have to worry about your slower times compared to others who have done it before. And besides, if you go with people that you know, you'll have fun and umm...look stupid in front of them only.

Go check out the SCCA ny region's first autox on April 17th. I won't be there because I have to attend a reunion at my school, Carnegie Mellon Univ. that weekend. But I'll be at the Meadowlands next Sunday running with the NASA club. If you want, drive out there and check it out. And if they have fun runs, you can sit in my car and I'll take you out for a nice slow ride.

but i hear the S03's are like $175ish a tire and the Azenis are about $100 a tires (which is more in my budget). is this true?? are the S03's worth the extra $$$???

the ohter tire i was think about is the yoko es100's. i think i will end up buying either this or Azenis. unless you twist my arm and tell me how much better the S03's are

Mike, I don't know anything about the Yokohama model you mentioned. So I don't know how to compare it. If it's too much money for the S03s. You might even want to give the Kumho MX a try. I believe they come in 205/50/16. They are suppose to be pretty good in the dry. Some people are giving them a try as opposed to the cheap azenis. But once again, we're going for dry performance...don't know how it'll hold up in the winter time. If you slip and slide and do another 360 on the parkway...don't come looking for me.

Joe, helmets can be borrowed at these events. You just have to enjoy and share the sweat of others who have wore it in the 90 degrees weather. The sweet aroma will keep in awake in the car. Other wise, you can buy a motorcycle helmet with a Snell rating of M2000 and you can use it till year 2010. It will be good at the autox events, regional and national level and some track days depending on which club is organizing it. Or else, you can get a Snell rated SA helmet that's for the track. They have a special lining for fireproofing. A cheap open face M rated helmet can start around $75 to something that's $300 depending on the brand of course. Other than a helmet, you might want to get a pair of driving gloves if you are like me, start sweating when you get nervous...hmm...nothing else after that...when is school semester over for you?

I'm physced..going to see 2 extra celicas out on the course this season.

yea i've been told that they let you walk over the track b4 it starts. otherwise, 99.99% of all the drivers will go outta course the first 1-2 runs :AF:

All clubs will let you walk the course as many times as you need provided you have enough time. However, some clubs will also give out parade runs, which is a slow run that doesn't count. And then, there's NASA, you get a parade run and a first run at full speed that doesn't count. So, if by your real 1st run, you get lost...you got some problems.

on the tire subject, get the SO3s. they're gr8 8 months of the year. xcellent in the dry and rain. useless in the snow and poor when the temp is below about 45F.

the es100 is a good buy, the Conti extremesportcontact is a bargain, iirc.

Azenis are GREAT autoX tires, but useless in the rain.

as for helmets, get a balaclava and keep borrowing someone else till u find one that fits perfectly and get that one.

Mike - Been busy basically. Not only with wrestling but also with school. I'm on the state open team, being the youngest, I basically go to diff. meets and some offer cash awards for top 3. I've placed top 3 many a time but becuase I'm still a collegiate wrestler - I can't partake under NCAA rules.

BTW I'm not into pro-wrestling which is the more popular animated counterpart of my sport. There are no scripts in amateur wrestling. Unfortunately its often overshadowed and no one really knows about it. No chairs are involved in the wrestling I do. www.themat.com

If no one has anything to do, I have something that can be installed i am sure. :) Gauges, gauge pod, overlay, led's, rims and tires, rotors, hose kit, and maybe something else in a few weeks... hehehe.

Sort of, since me and my sis work for MTV Networks, we're going to the Nickelodeon Kid's Choice Awards. She works with a lot of award shows. Im going for the free 5-star hotel on beach, free food 24 hours a day, free universal studio tix, and I get to goto the award show. i know it's for kids and stuff, but they get some pretty big people to come to that show. And I always see someone famous up close when I visit the SoCal area. Besides it looks good that i work for them and that I'm at the show, maybe help me land that job for sure.

Also theres a bonus for going there. The guy I bought the JDM housings off of is located in SoCal, so when he gets his 03 headlamps in, hopefully before I go, I can pick up the JDM's when I go there. Perfect timing, if he gets his 03 headlamps from DD in time. I hope, save on shipping. :)

from my experience, MOST chicks that i met/hang out with love to point the flaws on other chicks. granted there are a FEW chicks that actualy dont' do that BUT for the most part 95% of them drink "haterade"

Just remember these 3 easy rules
