So...my celica is in the shop...the engine just DIED on me on the feter of a street across from Toyota. So i towed it to toyota...and they said that a valve might be busted. He also said that they need to open the engine which would take 4 hours of labor = $312. AND...its all under warantee UNLESS...he finds that i've been pushing my celica under abnormal conditions. I told him "first off..its an AUTO GT..and I dont push it..." Then he said "i understand...BUT...Toyota has told us that when these young drivers come in with the celicas...we need to check the engine to see if its been pushed farther than normal driving conditions"
Isn't that retarded? Profiling?
And...what info can they get off of my ECU that could poinnt to >> ABNORMAL DRIVING. ? What would they pull out of their ass just to get me to pay? I'm going back there after i get off of school...i just wanted some advice....and maybe an outlook to what i should expect.

Ouch. Sounds like you better be prepared for a fight. But I would love to see them show and explain normal wear and tear over abnormal driving........... Some thing like, "You have been in WOT to 5 times to many to qualify you as driving the vehicle normally, so we can't cover the damages"...............................

as long as ur engine is stock and u didnt street race then run from the cops the night before or anything like that there's no reason for them to void ur warrantee..
good luck dude.

I was exiting the freeway and it just ****ed on me when i got to the street. I wasn't even going fast!! I dont street race (duh auto gt!)
hopefully they'll cover under warantee...but other than that...we'll see when they crack that engine open...

Good luck. You're going to need it dealing with these people for sure. Dealerships suck when it comes to this kinda thing.

dont worry man, they will fix it, for free and should provide you with a rental while its getting fixed(if it takes awhile) i mishifted on my celica with 33k on it. the had to replace the whole head because one of the exhaust valves was burnt to death. the car would barely idle and sounded like a wrx. i took my parts off(expect springs and sways) disconnected the batt for 5 min(just incase they check how high my engine was revving) i made up a story that i had to break hard and downshift in order not to hit the car in front of me. the total to fix it was 2600(covered by warrenty) they asses who work there said that toyota wont fix it if i do it again. hope the same works out for you

Sounds like the dealer is playing hardball with you. I can tell you right now he is feeding you BS about the "young drivers" and their Celicas. He saw "sucker" written on your forehead.
Get the customer relations manager and make them prove that your "abnormal" driving caused the bent valve.

i plan on taking in my 02 auto gt to the dealership this week. It only has 15,xxx miles and while i was driving, it was as if the transmission popped into neutral, revved up, and engaged and made the car jerk real hard. Either that or if im trying to accelerate and its about to shift it hesitates on shifting and the revs kind of float there then it engages pretty rough again. But then on some days its just fine. The car is stock never been raced and never been neutral dropped.

It is Joe Myers Toyota? They replaced my engine for me under warranty not to long ago, bent exhaust valves and stuff. If they covered mine, you'd have to know my car, they should definetly cover yours.

Same thing happens to me occasionally on my 2001 auto gt...I've asked the dealer about it several times but they seem to dodge the question every time, i just ignore it now, especially if it's not constant. My friends acura did that with every shift and had to get the transmission replaced...I just hope this isn't an early sign of that......
