View Full Version : Installed my Tein's BABY!!!!!!!!!!
TRD StreetRacing

well atleast we instaled the front :D .....it got too late and we decided that we are going to install the back tomorrow. it took us about 45min-1hour (which was not bad). it wouldn't have taken us this long, but we stripped a bolt in the shock that held on the brake lines. so we had to take everything out on that one side, to get to the stripped bolt.
after everythign was said and done, we went for a ride. let me start off by saying. HOLY ****!!!!!! . just sitting in the car after the install was creazy. even b4 i drove it, i felt a big defference (just sitting in it). then came the ride :AF:
the car is STIFF. i can't explain to you how it feels. it just feels like the car is more solid. It feels like a WHOLE NEW car. now the big question is the ride quality over the bumps. it was amazing. no bumpy ride, bouncy ride what so ever. right now, i have my coilovers set 2/3 way down. so i expect some bouncyness. but non what so ever. i went over the well known pot holes around my area and i didn't feel the car bounce once :AF:
at the next meet i will let the manual celi drivers drive my car to show you the difference btw the stock car (well i had ground controll coilovers on b4) and a car with Tein SS coilovers. the difference is NIGHT and DAY

You bought the SS right??? I'm seriously considering buying the TEIN Basic Coilovers. I don't think I even know how to use the dampening adjustment, so I'd be better off not paying the extra 200+ for it, unless you can convince me why I really need it, LOL. I think I'm gonna sell my Hotchkis Springs and KYB AGX shocks, plus my TRD springs that are already on the car. Maybe I'll walk away only paying 200 extra for TEIN basic. What do you think I should do Mike?
BTW, congrats, I definitely have to go for a ride in your car. that will be the deciding factor for me. :D

well it's really up to you. adjusting it is easy. the bad part is u have to jack up both sides to do it. there is a thread that showes the drop on the basics and there pretty pretty impressing. GTSnut has it done. Do a search on "Tein" and pick the thread by GTSnut with in the past week or 2. that has the pics
if you don't want the hasssle of droping it and raising it as u wish, i say go for the basic

Thanks so much for the info Mike, I'm gonna look up Bo's thread now. Damn, I wish I could meet up with you, but I have class till 9:30 tomorrow. Well 1245-345 and then 6-930 straight. :( It's supposed to definitely rain tomorro, so I dunno if you're gonna be able to install the rear. Man, these are really tempting, and if i get them , I'll probally just get the basic's because I plan on setting it at a height and leaving it there, unless I plan to auto-X it. But I doubt it. :D

this is perfect. i will definitly have mine done by that time. sometimes we like to procrastinate alot while doing our mods :D . today i went to my boys house at 3 and we ended up finishing around 8 :D....but the actual work time was about 1hr. we went to another guys house to check out the TOTALED car that he got for $500. all my friends buy cars off auctions for acouple hundred, strip it and sell it.
after u get off class call me. i live a block away from hofstra, so it will take me 5 sec to get up there :D
call me only if it does not rain during the PM. cuz if it rains after 2-3pm, i don't think i will do it

i dont' understand why ur so scared of autoX'ing. even i'm a bit scared (i dont' want to make my self look bad) but i'm still doing it. don't give me the excuse of not having the right rims/tires. we can even switch rims/tires inbetween runs ;)

I always wanted to buy a junked car, strip it, and sell the parts. But I don't have the room for that. It's a great way to make money on the side. :) Cool, I'll give you a call after class then, so long as it's not raining. I won't be able to stay out long, I gotta goto Queens and get to my girls house. I havent seen her all week, and umm, well, ya know. ;)
How much is the drop at the preset height btw?
Well my main reason too is i don't want to look bad, but I don't wanna destroy my car either. Also, I think new brakes are going to be needed soon. They havent squealed yet, but I can tell the time is near. i just don't wanna mess up my car. I think for my first time I'll just watch, I've never seen an auto-x in person before so I wanna get the feel of it. :)

if you know how to do it, have the tool and the space, it's a great hoby to have. the car that he got off the auction for $500, he is taking the motor out and selling the motor alone for $2100. well the cars that my friends get are VW's. all of them drive nothing but VW's. these are the same guys that are doing their own turbo kits and going to have sick cars during this summer

Ahhh the VW crew. theres like 8 guys with VW's all decked out on franny lew every weekend. they rotate, cuz I never see them all together, but they all honk at each other when they pass by. It's amusing. Oh and that reminds me, I raced (yes i know, its not like me) a new style VW golf GTI. It was a gunmetal color, and he was revving me. His plates said 4CYLTRBO and even had a Porsche turbo badge on. He had one extra pass., I had none. We take off on green. I had leading until I shifted to third, he started gaining and was maybe a bumper ahead when lift kicked in and then he stopped gaining. But that was it, cuz a car was blocking his lane and he dropped back, but then he flashed his hazards, and im like ok buddy, too short of a race IMO. I think it woulda been interesting. anywho Ii stopped racing, we both made a left, he got ahead of me, and three blocks later he gets pulled over by a cop doing 80, from outta no where. i crapped myself to say the least. anyways im off topic....
cool, 2 inches sounds good to me! :)
Yeah I think i need new brake pads, but its all good. i have the brembo rotors and TRD brake pads, but i dont wanna install them till i get my Hotchkis camber links and coilovers. I'll do it all at once that way. :)

dont' sell ur set up b4 u checked out mine though. cuz i'v never personaly had the spring/aftermarket shock set up. it maybe very similar to tein's. in which case selling ur set up and getting teins are worthless
evil eye
03-07-2004, 02:23 AM
True no doubt. But I've just been told that the shocks that I have and that I've heard so many good things about, are worthless for my springs because they max out at 1.5 inches. Anymore than that and the shocks could blow just as fast as stock. :sadpace: I wanna go 2 inches at most. the TRD kit isn't that low as you know, it can handle that drop. I never scrape with my TRD springs on.
TRD StreetRacing
03-07-2004, 05:15 PM

:werd: I guess you never drove like a maniac over potholes, bumps, etc. :D I know on some highways the bumps are rediculous. Not potholes but the way the highway was repaired makes it seem like a rollercoaster sometimes. Im talking about the queens side of the GCP. When you take one of those bumps at 80, your car will bounce up and down like it's grinding a fine chica. ;)

if i could afford the A spec (if they decide to produce it) i would. but that plus custom deepdish rims will cost a **** load :AF:
but yea i think i'm aiming for the blown kit and the 8 piece flares (depending of the 8 flares look good)
evil eye
03-08-2004, 08:09 PM
:werd: theyre never going to make the blown kit. trust me on that. The 8 piece kit will probally look best only if it is molded IMO. You dont want flares that are tacked on BRS style. All that costs money and the deep dish rims, forget about it mikey, youre looking at $4000 easily and thats a low price IMO. Figure $1000 for the 8 piece kit (since the regular will be 750 he said), then add another grand for fitment/paint. molding? god knows how much, i never had anything molded. and the rims? 2 grand easy, and thats without tires. and you know it too. realistically unless you ditched the whole performance route, which I know you love, you shouldnt do it. leave the widebodies for just the show look, like me. I know you, you need the performance, and god knows you would need a turbo to back up that extra weight you just tacked on.
