First of all I have a 2000 GT 5spd. Here is the problem I am having. I recently had my belt tensioner replaced due to the squeeling noise and soon after (within 15 miles) my engine started making a rattling noise...best I can describe would be like a machine gun. The car drove fine except for the noise. So basically I thought the tensioner was installed incorrectly. So the next day I inspected the tensioner and it seemed fine, I also checked my oil and there wasnt a drop in there! I was on my way to get it changed (I was at about 4000 miles since the last one). I check under the car and there is no trace of a leak or any oil on the engine plastics and I havent smelled any oil burning. So considering the lack of oil I automatically think that the noise may be a result of that. So I filled it up and drove it...well the noise is still there (starts around 2900rpm), so now I think it may be a spun rod bearing or bent valves or something of that nature. But what I dont understand is that the car idles fine and drives fine and pulls like it always has...so IF it is an internal engine problem described above would the driveability of the car still be good? Could it actually be the belt tensioner? Also what would cause me to go through 4quarts of oil in 4000 miles except for the fact that they didnt fill it all the way...I always check but I dont think I did this time because if there wasnt enough in there I would have noticed. I am going to bring it to the Toyota by me since one of my best friends is a parts manager there and I can get a break on parts if I will need them but I wont be able to have my car towed there until Monday. So any suggestions or opinions until I get it into the shop would be appreciated
