i was thinking about getting that apr strut bar on the gb, but i was worried about damaging effects from blocking the hoodscoop.... paranoid. it comes with age i believe..

I talked to some TRD represatives about the issue of what exactly is the hoodscoop used for and if it's bad to block it. I was told it's mostly for drag/downforce issues and some engine airflow characteristics. Helping with higher speed stability of the FWD. And air circulation around the motor for cooler under hood temps. They said blocking off the scoop or hindering the airflow lessens the airflow through the engine bay and decreases areodynamics. The effects probably only help marginally and aren't critical. But why screw it up if you can help it. We want to enhance the car not decrease it performance. [/B]

dood....who cares what it looks like, i mean as long as it does its job, and they all pretty much look the same....a bar across the engine that attaches at the strut towers. now aside from looks, thats why i said get a QUALITY bar if your that insistent on getting one....APR is absolute crap
just outa curosity.....why yo want a strut bar anyway?

I have that bar already. Why is it crap btw, because they make park bench wings? I want a real answer with proof. A strut bar, is a strut bar I thought? The only bar I really wanted was the Hotchkis bar cuz it has camber adjustment, but it's too much money. The APR looks decent IMO.

there is the hypermotive one which will allow air flow since it has holes in it.

as long as it stiff and doesn't flex how is it bad? and that's not proof mike. I said I wanted proof! :gap:

oh and we all know APC is crap, but I heard good stories from their strut bar, but I'd still never buy one cuz it's APC. It's supposedly a copy of the RMM.

Mike, when you have a FWD car most of the time, you're starting off with understeer. That's why people try to stiffen up the rear to induce oversteer either with strut bar or with coilovers and by dialing up the dampening. You can even play with tire pressures to induce oversteer. But if you want the absolute answer on this one, go to the autox forum and ask. I'm positive you'll be satisfied with the answers they give you.
