for those that have NO idea what im talkin about its the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Batery. not something you pass or fail, just a test that lets ya know your strengths and weaknesses and gives you a good idea of what kinda jobs you qualify for, hence why i wanna do really well.

Im shootin for a career in the U.S. Coast Guard!! just thought id give y'all a heads up to where im trying to swing my life to

Thats awesome Randy. Does it tell you civilian jobs you are qualified for, or just armed service jobs? Hope you get a good jobby job regardless. :)

Hey man. Im going to a recruiter today, just after I get out of the gym. Im just friggin bored with everything right now. College degree sitting here doing nothing for me. I figure, I'll use that to my advantage on getting in. It might boost me up a rank. Are you going full time or reservs. I still don't even know what branch I want to join.
I thought about the coast guard, but only if I was stationed down in Florida. I want to go after the drug runners.

From experience, try to go Air Force. I would say Army since that is what I am in but I see how the Air Force people have it and that is so much better than the way the Army treats us. They also do not do many "cool" things. For things that are "cool" so you can say I did this and will never do that anywhere else join the Army. Just think about the whole deployment thing. If you have any questions as far as the Army side or going enlisted vs officer side I would be glad to let you know.

good luck yourself!! myself im goin for active duty, but with he USCG right now there is a HUGE waiting list just to get in. like i said in my first post the earliest my recruiter could get me into boot camp will be december. Which for me is fine(not what i want, but fine) because its whats i want and i'll wait for it.

I know the marines ar STARVING for people, but personally not my taste.

for you with a college degree, i think you have the chance of being an officer right away, no boot camp, just a few weeks training depending what service you go in if im not mistaken

but for yo take LT's worrd, since he IS in the army and is teling you to do something else, id go with that, look into the air force

Well I just got back from the recruiter at the Air Force. I have a small problem getting in. I have two pins in my knee from a torn ligament 5 years ago. He said it's near impossible to get me in because the pins are still in my knee. If I had them removed, I would be in. He said if they took me, then they would be immediately responsible for my health care if my knee went bad.
He gave me the number of the Air Force National Guard and said they might be able to waive this for me. It's the problem with being on active duty right away. In the Guard your not immediately on active duty, so the knee wouldn't matter.
Those screws are staying in my damn knee. God that surgery hurt bad enough, why would I want them going back in. I didn't get to go to the Army because they weren't in there office. I'll keep trying though.

Wouldn't any branch be responsible for your health with the pins still in? The army would accept you with that condition? If you were accepted by the Guard, and then they put you on active duty, would they make you remove the pins? Ouch.

He claimed that if I went in the guard I wouldn't be on active duty right away. So by chance, I may never be on active duty. I mean the screws were only in there to hold my ligament down while it strenghtened and my muscles did the same. I run, play basketball, vollyball. I figured they would just wait to see what type of job I go for. Hell what if I was a cook, who cares about my leg then. HEHEHE. The best part is. He told me the Guard is looking for people in computers. They want them to hack into the goverment computers to find flaws in there security. What a nice job that is. Hell I would love to do that.

well after a wake up call at 4a.m., and being poked, prauded, pissing in a cup, giving blood, and being orthopedically tested, by noon today i was declared fit for military service :gap:

so now its just a waiting game till december so i can get it all started and go to boot camp, sooner if a few people woos out and back out

wow kid. done already? are you sure you want to do this? do you get to keep the jeep?

rddcelica
03-11-2004, 05:22 PM
of course i wanna do this.....ive been thinkin about it for 2 years

the CG is different though....i can drop it anytime up till 4 days before boot camp with no ties. im not sworn in or anything, just in the delayed entry program. i just had to gp thrugh the physical/ASVAB no mater what at somepoint, so i got it done and over with today

right now it all depends if i am qualified for the job/s i want, which i know i am cause i did VERY well on the ASVAB :gap:

so truly i am excited and cant wait....9 months is a longwait, but itll come quick

as far as the jeep, all depends. could i afford it, YES. but i dont wanna be stationed here in MA, i wanna go to other parts of the country FAR away, so therefore i would really have no need to waste money on car payments and insurance for something i could only use less than a month a year. so id sell it CHEAP, take a $3k hit prolly, but id rather owe $3k than $12k.
