there's a 3 series parked out in front of my dorm everyday with an "m3" badge... i'm skeptical. but then again i'm not BMW guru... it's definately an older model and has what seems to be larger than normal tires. i always thought though that the Ms had the extra fender flares up front. i took a quick glance inside and saw it was a manual.

what is one thing i can check that would let me know for sure if it's the real deal.

E36 then? E36 M3s have the M3 side mirrors of course. Check the interior there should be a stripes with m3 colors across the front seats. Im thinking the front is also different (like little diffuser) but unsure.

one thing that would set apart the older m3s from a 3 series would be the muffler--it looks like a ribbed comdom

check the side mirrors
black strip (door gaurds) have m3 on them
front seats have 3 tiny stripes
and look at the center of the speedometer..there is a small m3 sign

How wide are the M3 E36's tires in the back. I just saw a light blue metallic one and the tires are enormous+nice polished lip (maybe 9 inches).
