i'm probably gonna have my 3rd gear synchro replaced in 2 weeks
how much do you think toyota will charge to have a clutch put in,
since the tranny is already out?

thanx

Honestly, they should do it for the cost of parts. There is nominal time involved to remove the pressure plate, but that is about it. If you don't get the flywheel resurfaced, then I'd say an extra $30 or so.

would it really be that cheap?
and how do you resurface the flywheel?

thanx

The major cost of clutch replacement is getting to it. Since the trans has to come out for syncro's you are at it.

IMHO it would be silly NOT to replace it while it's sitting right out in the open.

As for flywheel resurfacing. They put it on a lathe and take a skim cut, just like when they true up your brake rotors.

i'm probably going to keep the car for about 2yrs, so it wouldn't be worth it, and i ain't got the $

When my transmission was replaced under warranty, they charged me $50 to put in a new clutch and flywheel.

It's your money but

If during that time your clutch fails expect to pay around or over 1000 to fix it.

Clutch replacement is a major expense. If I was looking at two cars with 60,0000 miles on them I'd buy the one with only 20k on the clutch.
