I've thought about doing it but the car would mainly have to be a show car and nothing more at that point.

It would certainly be beautiful ...too bad you couldn't really drive it then :(

what andy said and it would also weaken the structure of the car.

I dont htink it would look very good, due to the upward flowing lines of the celi

I think it would be a good looking, original mod... plus, if you ever have to save your friend from dangling off the side of a semi-truck moving 90 mph, you can jiggle the top off and have him jump in. :D

How about a T-top with a center beam support the seperates the two glass? Just add more reinforcement to the center beam so the structure of the car would still be safe.

I think the doors and side of the car would need reinforcement as well. It's a balance thing. Doing that would affect more than you think. I'm willing to bet a few years down the road the damn thing would start to leak. :(

:werd: It's freaking beautiful. The body shop made it seem so easy to do but they wouldn' t tell you about all the structual problems you would be walking into until it was too late.

You would have to reenforce the A pillar up to the top of the windscreen.
Reenforce the back half of the roof going across the roof and then down the B pillar.
There are a couple ways of doing it, one would be to do a full rollcage but that IMO would be pointless because the point of the targa top is to have a open roof, not steel bars going across the open.
Another is a four point cage in the rear only, going from the back part of the chop (about above the seats in the chop above) down.
That would support the rear of the car.
But in doing that you would loose you back seat (if that matters to you) cause someone would have to be pretty flexible to get in behind the cage.

Could it be done? Yes. But it will cost a good amount of change, and take some experimenting
to see what would work and what dosn't.
The hardest part of the whole project would be getting the targa top to go back on and have a good seel to prevent any leaks.

back seats are in the car but only for show the seat belts are out of it...i have my harness going back to where the driverside back seat buckle goes in bolted there and i'm in the process of buying another blue sparco harness...the four point thee bolt type harness if anyone's selling one for a decent price and is in good condition...and i honestly don't know about the full cage but the back half cage is definatley going in i just don't know about it going past the front seats so thats all i'd need to do for strucural integerity?

If I had extra money, I'd volunteer to be a Guinea Pig for this... but I dont.
