Hey Clint,
Guess what! That stupid CEL came back on again. I know you said that you thought it might be the charcoal canister or something. You also mentioned that someone on the boards worked at Waipahu Toyota.
I'm getting pretty close to the 60,000 mile mark, and I believe the evap system warranty only goes to 60,000. Any help would be appreciated.

dangit. I was afraid that wouldn't solve the problem. Go to Waipahu Toyota and see Chris Rogers in the sales department. He used to work at the service department at Toyota City and will know what to tell you to do. :)

I'm pretty sure your gonna have a P0442 code, and they are going to want to change the charcoal canister, I dont think its covered on the emissions warranty....... I could be wrong though.

Anyone know for sure if the charcoal canister is covered under the emissions warranty? If so I can take it to Toyota, but if not I'll have to look for other options.

Emission Defect Warranty
Related Parts: EPA regulations require that the warranty is in effect for two years from the date the vehicle is first put into service or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first. However, Toyota will provide you a coverage of three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first, under the terms of the Basic Warranty or the Powertrain Warranty.
Specified Major Emission Control Components: EPA regulations also require that the warranty for specified major emission control components is in effect for eight years or 80,000 miles, whichever comes first.

I don't know if the charcoal canister comes under that warranty, and I don't want to end up paying out of my a$$ in order to fix this problem which doesn't seem to be hurting my car's performance in any way.

the convertor is covered under this, and thats about all. Every thng else would be covered under the basic, or extended warranty if you purchased it. Do you know anybody that can pull the code for you? If so... find out what code it is and let me know. if you cant get some body to pull the code give me a call, I think Clint has my cell #.

Ok, this stupid problem is driving me nuts. I took it to a friend's shop to have him check it out and pull the codes. The CEL was on when I drove it down there, but like clockwork when the owner turned the car on to move it into the work bay the light went off.
He did pull a saved code which indicated that the o2 sensor after the cat was bad. Since that sensor rarely goes bad i'm going to have to special order it, and it'll take a week to come in.
Any ideas why the CEL is going on and off? I've been double checking my gas cap, and i haven't changed gas brands recently so I don't think that's it.
I think i'm losing my mind
