View Full Version : Help! Buzzing noise during acceleration
Whenever I step on the gas, I always hear a buzzing noise. It happens on all gears. It wasn't there before and it started after I got my first oil change. I'm just really concerned. What could be the problem? Thanks for your help.

Is it a buzzing or a whine? I just got an '02 GTS. when the radio or Cd is on i notice a whine. only with it on.
from past experiences with corvettes and other cars this is cause of the alternator eletrical interference. some1 made a supressor for this problem. think it was just a resistor that installed in the engine compartment. any1 else hear of this b4?

it isn't a resistor for the engine. It is a combination of magnets and coils called chokes. It is actually installed on the lead powerline that goes to the radio, and eliminated noise or the hum that you hear. Most of them can't handle anything over 15 amps at least the ones they sell at radioshack. They have a kit for them for CB radios, but they will work fine on ours.
Mine is a buzzing noise. I only hear it when I accelerate.

This may sound silly...
But I kept hearing a buzzing noise too when I accelerated, and wondered why it was doing it...
I inspected it, and found out that it was my keys! The side of the steering wheel near the ignition vibrates when you accelerate, and my keys were lying against it, so they made a buzzing noise with it.
But mine is coming from the engine. I can hear it whenever my window is down. And it buzz whenever I step on the gas. I'm just really concerned. Any inputs would be really helpful. Thanks

Since it started when you got your oil changed I would bet it is a piece of plastic or other goody taken off to get the engine that was not snapped back in place.
That could be it. I'm gonna check it out. Thanks

maybe it's your belts. i hear it too when i get on the throttle lightly. if i go even near WOT or over 3000rpm, the engine drowns it out.
I'll check that too. Thanks

sometimes when i hit lift, or rev or somehting something whirs. it sounds like something spools up. i thought it was my CD player, so i stopped it. and i still heard it. then i thought it was the air vents. but wasnt sure. could be my intake?
i was on the freeeway and wanted to see if i can hear it so put it in neutral and revved to like 7000 rpm, and i heard it. it like starts at around 4-5000 rpm, its like high pitch air sound, like a turbo. but i dont have turbo. kinda cool sound

By chance do you have an injen CAI or any type of after market intake? I heard a buzzing sound on mine from the filter ratteling against the bumper.
Nope, my car is still stock

heh.. my car has that "turbo" sound too. im not sure what it is, and just had my 10k maintenance service, so i assume its not a problem. i think it only happens when im on the road for awhile, and all of a sudden i stop at a drive-thru then i could hear it. i have no mods under the hood.
rjay: if the buzzing sounds more like a whistle or whine its probably the belts. i had the same problem awhile back and toyota fixed it

My CAI makes that "turbo" noise, though its more of a sucking "heh". Its just a lot of air going real fast into my engine

I think I know what it is. I didn't understand what you meant by Buzzy, but I do hear it all the time. It is more of a geary noise. Kinda like when you play with an RC car and the gears inside kinda hum? Like a "rreeeeeewww" sound. If that's the case, that's your gearbox, and we all have that sound then. I hear it in our Lexus, and I hear it in all other cars.
if the car is under warranty, why don't you take it back to your dealer and see if they can figure it out. that way you won't have to rack your brain trying to figure out what the problem is and you won't have to spend any money fixing it. just a suggestion...

if any of you buzzing guys have aftermarket radios you probably have a bad ground.... take out the stereo and ground it to something else... if its OEM and the sound is coming out of the speakers you need to take it back to the dealer (if its still under warranty) and let them deal with it...

In my case it isn't the radio since when I don't have it on, it doesn't come out of the speakers. I had my windows rolled down, and I heard it from the engine compartment. It sounds like the gears inside spinning like an old fashion clock forced to spin quickly. For you guys who hear it only on with the radio, just buy a filter from Radio shack for CB radios or something, and it will remove the hum and clean out the power to your CD player. If you're running an amp, well... find a better ground.

yeah, there are a lot of normal car noises that you're more likely to hear in a celica cuz of the lack of sound deadening :D
Blue Lucifer
That's the same thing I hear on my engine. It's noticeable when the windows are down. Is it normal?

Yeah I think it is normal. I mean, I hear it in new cars also that have traction control and all those extra goodies in the drive system. I think in our cars though it is just lack of sound deadening, and physics of cogging cogs and springy sprockets. :)
