View Full Version : full tank of gas = how many miles???
TRD StreetRacing

how many miles do you guys get off a full tank of gas?? if you don't know for sure, don't guess. i want to see if mine is normal. last time there was about 90% tank and i got about 240miles outta it. so yesterday i filled it up and i'm going to take a more accurate reading
for some reason every single time i enter a highway/parkway, i start off from the ramp doing 40mph or so then take it all the way to 90mph-ish and then slow down. so that might be a reason i'm getting crappy mileage
tell me what u guys/girls get please

I average 350 miles on a full tank. then the light comes on. I take highways mostly from LI to queens and back again. HU I go locally. Thats my routine. I enter highways normally unless its empty and then i hit 90 as well, but thats rare. I cruise in 6th at 70-75 mph. I gas up every 8 days or so. Is that enough info for ya? :gap:
Fun fact #1: it takes exactly half a tank of gas to go to boston one way.

it all depends on how you drive mike. whether you rev high or keep them down low. i know when i took the trip to krysy's house from my house (almost 300 miles) i can get there with exactly 1/4 of a tank left. and thats with dropping it into lift a few times and having fun, not granny driving. and i can do that in 4 hours.
but driving around during the week, to and from work, i usually fill up every 5 or 6 days. and thats with beating the bag out of my car

Yea I was granny driving to boston and back, those two times. 5-6 hours half a tank. :D

On factory rims and tires, i was getting 360 miles. And that was with 3/4 highway driving at about 90mph. I also had two bars left, but ironically, no light. I notice my car has a problem with that light. I thought it came on with 2 bars. I probably could of gotten 370 380 if I drove 70mph.
Oh yeah. And that was with no mods at all. No exhaust, or CAI.

03-17-2004, 02:03 PM
^--- The light only comes on with one bar and less. ;)
oh, and you can have no bars, scary as hell, only did that once. But it's designed that way. You could probally go 50 miles on 1 bar and below. They do it that way so you dont get stranded in the middle of nowhere with no gas station around. :ugh:

surprsingly i get 18 or so mpg on the highway, but then again, thats not in a celica, in the city i average 12-14mpg....fawkin un-aerodynamic box on wheels

manual states tank capacity as 14.5G. i have put in 14.9G more than once.
when the lite comes on, there's more than 2G left. when the last bar goes out there's about 1G left.
each gas station's stop mechanism differs. i've filled between .2-.6G since the first stop/click.
..so, point being i bet interpretation of "full tank" differs for everyone.
:D just being anal.

isnt it bad to let your tank get that empty? I heard that all the crap inside gasoline, that settles in the bottom of your gas tank, gets sucked into the engine when you're squeezing every last drop of gas in.

also, is that considered topping off? Every gas station I goto has this big warning on the nozzle that says "do not top off." I figured that's what it was. Am I wrong? :D

The most gas I have ever put in my car is 12.6 gallons. It's funny to hear a fuel injected car run out of gas. I did this once in my mustang. I was going uphill and I heard the injectors blow air, I looked down and said "im an idiot, forgot to get gas." Round the top of the hill and floored my car brought her up a little over 140 and threw her in neutral. I was able to roll all the way off the exit down the road a little bit and into the gas station.

I usually get 69 miles on a tankful because like the rest of you I have lots of sweaty sex in my car, therefore to keep it warm I must leave the car running while parked and it causes me to get a little worse miles per gallon then I would like.

 sex addicts.
I always warm up my car until it raises one bar, yes even in the summer. It doesnt take long at all in the summer as you can imagine. I do it just so the oil and other fluids flow throughout the engine. The car drives like **** when it's not warmed up.

mike, if you want to more accurately measure the mpg, use the value of how much fuel you put in the car to fill it up. because you know you've used that much.

It's always been like that in Jersey. Whenever me and the fam drive down to Florida, we run it close to empty until we hit jersey and the fill it up for a nice cheap price. And if I remember right, they're all full service stations in jersey, and you dont have the price increase (because of full serve) attached to it either! It's great!

We were both granny driving lol...I beat him wiht 436 miles before I had to get gas...I had to guide it off the off ramp right into the gas station lol...I win!!!

The best mileage I ever got was when I drove down to Florida. So you're mileage may suck more if you spend more time in stop and go traffic or local streets. That 6th gear saves massive gas. ;)
Oh, I hit lift about 1-2 a week if even that. I only use it when I have to, I don't want to pre-empt the bolts to break any faster than they will by the natural course of time. :wtc: Can't they make stronger bolts already, damn toyota.
