how to test my alpine monitor

my car is at toyota for gear grind, anyone know how to test my alpine monitor without actually connecting it to the harness?
do you just connect the yellow wire to the positive battery terminal? any chance of a short happening?

Connect the constant and ignition wires to + and the ground to - and you can play with it.

so i connect 2 wires to the + and the ground to the - ?
3 wires total?
do you know the colors of the wires?
