For those of you who didn't see my post over at nextcelica.net, the new branch of Toyota will officially be called Scion. Most likely the Celica, Echo, Matrix, Prius, and MR2 will be included.

Sounds like some type of skin disease... how do you "officially" say that?:ugh: I think it's stupid that they are doing this. What's their justification?

What the hell is this crap? Why wreck your recognizability on this retarded piece of **** marque? Toyota of America's management is crazy.

I feel sorry for the lineage of the Celica and MR2. They deserve to be called Toyotas.

I don't like the new name.

I don't like the new logo.

Hm... you think this will actually pull through?

I dont think that will be the line up. I used to think that too but after some research I doubt it. Here are some reasons.

First there was mention of them using it to bring over the popular younger peoples cars from Japan. Toyota has a wide array of cars to chose from. All small two door cars. Mostly of Echo size and smaller. So of the car you listed I think the Echo is the only one that could make the transition. They may also bring over the Japanese-Euro style Echo called the Vitz.

Second, the Celica is a Toyota name sake. One of the first three models Toyota ever made I believe, or at least very close to it. I mean heck this is the 7th generation. I doubt very highly they would change the name plate, especially something that might be considered a down grade.

Third, the Matrix is money in the bank. I think that Toyota wants to make big money of it. Changing stables after a year wouldn't make much sense. Also, although the Matrix tarets younger people. I think that this new branch is targeting really younger, I mean like HS age. The Matrix is too new and expensive even for them.

Fourth, Prius is a little too expensive and again it's one of those cars that Toyota would want to keep in it's stable. It's Toyota's competition for the Honda hydrid. They would want to keep it in the same market for potential buyers.

Fifth, The MR2 to much perfromance and not enough practicality to be considered a kids car. Insurance, drop top and very little usable space would eliminate this car. Also it's another one of Toyota's favs.

So what does that leave us with: Well I do agree with the Echo. Small affordable and roomy. The Vitz is a shoe in. I think a renamed Corolla hatch-back (already available in Japan) is another good idea. There are also some very small, two seaters (akin to Mercedes? two people cars that are available in European and in small quantities here) that Toyota already has in their JDM line up. For other potential cars keep Toyota's japan website and there are quite a few that will fit.

Isn't the chaser here? Isn't it a Lexus model?

I know the Soarer was/is the SC 340.

I'm not to up on the other Lexus models but I'm pretty sure.

I wonder if the rumored new supra would be a "scion" car?

Da Kine Guy

No way, supra is waaaaaaay too expensive to be a Scion. I suspect all Scions will revolve around the Echo price, which is like 10k. I think the Matrix woulda been the top-of-the-line Scion if Scion were created first, but it wasn't, so Matrix is gonna be Toyota. Celica is gonna remain Toyota, too expensive. Scion cars that I know of will be the Yaris, the Vitz, Echo, and BB. There are a couple other letter named ones, but they are really small. The BB I think stands for Big Box or something. It kinda looks like an Echo Wagon, but even boxier, very European looking IMO. In fact, ALL the Scion cars look very European, all boxy, tall, and really small. I remember when I last went to Paris and London, about 80% of all the cars I saw there were no bigger then a Tercel. Paris more then London. There were a few GTO's and a couple SUV's that I saw, but the VAST majority were Citroen, BMW, Mercedes, Opel, and Peugeot small mini-mobiles, especially in Paris, they were all over the place.

Oh yeah, and they had this thing called a S.M.A.R.T. CART that was as long as a regular car is wide, so people were just parking in between other parellel parked cars, only they were parked like they would in a regular space, very interesting cars over there indeed.

I totally agree. I think this is exactly what Toyota is aiming at.
