if you would like to join rico (official NE autoXer) and myself (autoX noob) in attending some autoX events, please feel free to come. if you dont feel like running, atleast come watch/learn. try and make it to atleast one of the events.
from the look of the listed days, you would pretty much catch me in all of them.
http://www.autox4u.com/nyr.htm
BTW.....joe...it's already set that ur coming to to watch/learn one meet and atleast run one time. on may 2nd is "novice school" ....so the both of us can attend ;) if you don't wanna run on the other days

Hopefully I can go, that is mighty close to finals week. We'll play it by ear, but I'm down to go with you on the 2nd, so long as school is not a problem. :)

you guys should also consider going to E-Town for autox events as well
the track they make is a lot bigger since the parking lot is bigger, so you can open her up more, which is always fun
i'm going to the 4/10 autox at e-town first, then i'll stay local and do the 4/17 autox at Nassau...love to have some company on the way down and back :D
evil eye
03-29-2004, 06:52 AM
Where's e-town again? I always hear about it, is that in Jersey?
ScooterKin
03-29-2004, 06:55 AM
yeah Old Bridge Township Jersey...
this past Sat morning for the Honda Day autox/drag i left my place at 7:55...got there in RECORD time...8:55
it's roughly a 70 mile journey one way

Oh I see, so thats definitely something we have to plan in advance for. This is what we should be doing for meets and stuff, that way we dont have to worry about what we're gonna do when we all meet up. :) I'd be down to do it. Stupid question but are there a lot of tolls?

i would have run at e-town but i don't think my tires will be ready by then. so that rules out my chances of taking part. i might how ever come with you though. never been to an autoX meet at e-town but is there a fee for just attending and watching??

i'm going to make a BOLD statement right here right now...
IF you guys come to an event and do NOT race, you WILL BE kicking yerself for not doing it :D
with that said, you do NOT need to go to novice school before participating...there have been PLENTY of "noobs" who run autox without the school...i'm one of 'em :D
this is my 4th year doing this, and every year there are more and more people who just come out with daily drivers just to try it out a few times and enjoy what it feels like to take their rides to the limits
novice school is a worthwhile venture..but i wouldn't exclude yerself from an event just b/c you didn't do the school...like i said, you will get the itch once you start seeing cars running the course :D
TRD StreetRacing
03-30-2004, 09:45 AM
i would run in the 17th event but i don't think my tire set up will be ready by then for sure. so the next possible option is on the 2nd which happends to be novice school
ScooterKin
03-30-2004, 09:53 AM
come the 10th...if you like it, run the 17th...who cares if the tires are ready or not...run anyway
TRD StreetRacing
03-30-2004, 10:04 AM
my tires are pretty much slicks. 0 tread and i do mean 0 (atleast the backs are 0)
the front has abouth 30% thread. if i take a normal turn at a decent speed (abour 20-30mph) over the speed limit, i can feel the tire slip
ScooterKin
03-30-2004, 10:13 AM

TRD StreetRacing

maybe i'll let you ride once with my baby...then you'll appreciate all the weight you save driving the Cel
TRD StreetRacing
03-30-2004, 12:23 PM
what's the weight on ur car??
ScooterKin
03-30-2004, 01:00 PM
3594 with me in it, minus the spare and stock jack
TRD StreetRacing
03-30-2004, 02:43 PM
holy shit......that's a 1000lbs more than the celi :AF:
ScooterKin
03-30-2004, 09:24 PM
yeah...it's a friggin miracle i can keep up with the likes of WRX's, IS300's, and ITR's with my boat!!!
remember, it's not the car, it's the DRIVER ;)
TRD StreetRacing
03-30-2004, 10:21 PM
yes but that much more weight must make a difference (even if it's a small 1)
ScooterKin
03-31-2004, 05:19 AM
absolutely
my car feels like it's on rails (well a 3500 pound car on rails will feel different than a 2500 car on rails) :D
the tighter the turn, the worse for me, the better for you
which is why i've been stating for so long the best autox car i've seen is a Neon (1, modability for speed is easy, and 2, it's boxy and small, giving nimble handling in the twisties)

Nice, I see you installed the rotors the right way, as some people with slotted, don't.
I still have to install mine, they look just like yours, what are they brembo? Mine are brembo's and they are supposedly CAD plated which prevents rust, but thats all BS me thinks. Everything wears off after a while, and the rust will show Im sure.
ScooterKin
03-31-2004, 12:07 PM
there is no wrong way to install the rotors...doesn't matter what direction the slots/cd's are facing...common myth
yeah these are Brembo blanks that i had cd/slotted by a guy at Eurobraketech up in Yonkers area

geez man, i even threw up pics with the name plastered on it, and you STILL spelled it wrong ;) hehe i love bustin yer ballz, ESPECIALLY after calling bs on my 1/4 times :D:D
yer gonna LOVE the pedal response and resistance to brake fade...unfortunately, yer gonna have to autox the car in order to get a TRUE account of lack of brake fade
TRD StreetRacing
04-01-2004, 01:38 PM
many autoX fanatics have said that changing rotors on a celi is pointless. you don't feel any advantage over stock
the only reason i got it cuz i got a deal on em. i got if for $200 for all 4. plus my front rotors definitly have to be replaced so......
evil eye
04-06-2004, 06:51 PM

I've been to a few Auto X events, however, I never participated in any event. :gay:
I don't feel like purchasing the rule book, so I need some tips or advise on the basic rules for driving in fuc!-in' circles. Also, I noticed on May 2nd there is a novice school for auto x, would you recommend this event before participating in other auto x events?

InsaneDriver

Actually, there is a right and wrong way on installing rotors. This is a quote from a representative from Stoptech, " Vanes are the internal structure that you cannot see from a profile view. The vanes are actually 'slanted' in the opposite direction of the slots on the face of the rotor. The leading edges of the vanes 'point' towards the center opening of the rotor. As the wheel rolls, the rotor spins so that the leading edges of the internal vanes are cutting into the air, and actually pumping it outwards. This is one area that our AeroRotor design is superior to the competition. Air evacuation through the rotor is greater.
Back to the slots...you don't want the slots on the face in the same direction as the vanes. Why? Because they interfere with heat transfer. Heat travels from the face of the rotor into the internal structure of the rotors...into the vanes. As air flows over the vanes, it cools them. By cross-hatching the slot over the vane like an X, you are not taking a big chunk of material out of any single vane. If you laid a slot down in parallel over top of an internal vane, you would impair the heat transfer mechanism, and you would take away from the strength of the part."

I have two pass side rear rotors. I would bitch to the seller I bought them from, but I bought them like a year before I finally installed them, lol. Oh well. The other 3 are on the right way, and eventually I'm going to get a full big brake system, cuz I think my driver side caliper is spastic.

I think you might be talking about this older guy who used to be part of the crew for WSCCA. The two of us were the only two people with celica's back in 2k when they first came out. The 1st event I went to he didn't run the celica in it, but the next one I was at he did.

It's been a while since I checked this thread. I see that Jeff has called me out.
*Jeff - I moved to CA. Autoxing in CA sucks. 4 runs!!! I'm coming back here to autox...I hope.
There'll be another sticky when the new season starts.

I've been "ok". I'm actually in Memphis these days, working on a project. So I haven't been in CA for 2 months. Therefore, no sunny weather and no autox.
