So I got the car back from a misshift, new internals, new tranny. Not even 3 days later the car just dies. I get it towed back to the dealer and today they tell me the install was done wrong!! They think the valve hit the piston, or either it was just a bad valve install.....at least another month they will have my car. Before they had it for 2 months...man Im to the point of going back to toyota a setting my car on fire! This sucks!

That sucks. They should compensate by giving you a rental gts while you wait.

Don't hate the car, hate the techs at the dealer and yourself that one day where you misshift. It'll get better in time.

yea i still beat myself in the head for mishifting that day...yea it was 3 to 2 shift. Thing is even though i was flying through the gears I knew it was wrong but my foot had already came off the clutch. Oh well...is a month a little long or is that about right for internal work.

While I personally believe that Toyota didn't put enough effort into designing the transmission, I think you should count your lucky stars that they even fixed it for you.
I wouldn't complain about more time since its being done for free. When you get it back, if you hate it, sell it and buy a WRX so you can try a new type of transmission problem ;)

While them fixing it was never a problem, and yes I am happy about that, Im more upset and complaining that they didnt do it right the first time. I never posted anything about how long they were taking when they had the car before now(over a month and half just to fix) And now it will be another month...sheesh. Look at it this way, mishift was in Aug03. They couldn't get to my car until Dec03. I get it back now in Mar04 and 3 days after I get it, its ****ed again=7mon car payments and insurance almost 5000 dollars for a car im not driving! Thank God I just changed insurance, I was getting a new ******* carved.

oh boy...let me share my misshift experience....my buddy misshifted my 00 GT-S on jan 14 (my bday at that).....he went from 3rd to 2nd at 85 MPH
bring it in to toyota.....they replace the tranny, the clutch, the flywheel, and rebuilt the head with new intake valves.
get it back 1.5 weeks later.....everything running fine....next day started to notice a slightly rough idle....thought nothing of it.....next day driving home coming up on to the traffic on the freeway....went to go downshift from 5th cuz it was parking lot traffic.....car is stuck in 5th....had to rev the hell out of it to get it home in stop-n-go traffic (yes we have enough torque to manage, but didnt that clutch smell good).....
soooooi bring it back....they "fix" the shifter cable pin that broke and give the car back to me.....(this was on a tuesday).....car drives fine till friday....then the head goes as im coming off an offramp....so back to toyota it goes...they replace all 16 valves, shims, etc etc again this time.....get the car back 3 weeks later (they had the MASTER technician for the region do ALL the work).
driving home from picking it up that night.....car gets stuck in 3rd.....back up to toyota it goes...they replaced both pins THAT NIGHT and i have had the car since with no problems..... fun fun times

I have the same problems you do bro.. heres my misshift thread:
http://www.newcelica.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=115508
I just revived the thread today b/c it looks like im lookin at more time w/o my car.
So basically they worked on it for a month and today they were starting it for the first time and it died out on them. I did the same thing as you misshifted 3-2. I got the tranny fixed first (I had a bad synchro before I even misshifted). My car was able to run on 2 cylinders and I used it for like a week :gap:. Then I took it back to the dealer to have it fixed about a month ago and I'm still stuck here with no car.

Usually all rentals are autos.
