i'm not trying to jack some wheels. I'm getting the volk racing GT-P and i was just worried that somebody might jack me. I'm planning on getting getting atleast two wheel locks. So, is it possible to jack wheels with wheel locks?

the nuts can be busted off, but not by anything a normal thief carries around with them. Shops around here charge about $25 to take those things off if you've lost your key. The best you can do is make it as hard as possible for someone to try, so that maybe they'll look for an easier target, but like jotan82 said, if they really want it, they WILL get it.
The problem with locks is, most ppl get lazy and don't take the key with them. They usually leave it in the car, which defeats the purpose. Some alarms have a feature which senses if a car is being tilted, or jacked up. I know my Clifford IG has that option. You could prolly get something like that to at least give you a little notice if someone attempts to steal them.

I'm one of the lazy people you're talking about. I just leave the key in the car.

I don't see how you can not leave the key in the car. What happens when you are out on the road and you get a flat. How can you change the tire without the key? If you think i'm going to carry it around in my pocket you are crazy.

A little story that may be worth something here... it was posted on another list a while back and I saved it. I've always planned to do this if I spent large sums of money on a set of wheels. Enjoy...
*******************************************
About a year and a half ago, the 16" Pony rims from my 91 Mustang LX were stolen, to make matters worse, it was only two weeks after they were fitted with new 225/50/16 BIG O Euro VXP tires. Well, luckily for me, when I purchased the tires, I had the shop insert into each tire, a plastic ziplock bag containing a copy of my drivers license, the license number of my car, and the color and year of it as well. Also in the bags was a short note, requesting anyone repairing the tires or replacing them to give me a phone call collect if the car that the tires are doesn't match the license and description of the one found on the note.
Last week, I get a call from a shop in Eureka, there is a 1987 Mustang in there with a flat, and the guy repairing the tire found my note and called me. I told him my tires and rims were stolen, and maybe he should call the police. I faxed him a copy of my Police report, and the receipt I had for the tires with the tires serial numbers on it.
To make a long story short, when the customer was confronted with the note I had installed in the tire(s), he left the shop in a hurry. The Police were summoned, and it was determined the rims on his car were mine. I got the rims back, the tires were nearly worn out. The cars owner was arrested for possession of stolen property. That's just one more way to take a bite out of crime. Kenn Stogner

That IS a good a$$ idea.......hmmm maybe even include a little reward mention so u dont get some shady mechanic who'll show it to the customer and try to get $$ from him

uh... perhaps i don't understand, but if you've got that little ziplock bag in your tires, won't it throw off the balance a little? i guess it's just paper, but it'll be tossing around in there like clothes in a dryer? sounds like a great idea, but i'm trying to picture how this is done with the tire contantly being under such great pressure.

btw - like everyone says, if they want it, they will get it. for example, my friend told me that even with wheel locks, they can use a few generic keys. then take a hammer and smash that into the wheel locks to get a grip on it. they're gone from there. as suggested above, get an alarm that will set off if tilted at an angle. (i wonder how that works if u park on a semi-steep hill?)

If they wanted to steal your rims they will no matter what you have, wheel locks are the easiest to get around, all thats required is a hammer and a socket (thing that goes on a rachet) you just hammer the socket on to the wheel lock and the just take it off like you normally would, and it wont make noise either if they use a rubber hammer.
Thats what we did when my friend lost the key for his rims.

Yep those keys are heavy and bulky. Not something you'd want to carry around in your pocket. Luckily for me I live on a small island where you're always only about 30 minutes from anywhere. I leave a key with an uncle in town who runs an alignment/repair & towing company, and another at home where I can call someone to get it. ;)

The bag should be taped to the inside of the rim so it's not flying around. The balancing should take care of it from there.

For everyone that says you can just hammer a socket over the lock.. you need to look into the lugs that all of them are locks. They'd need 20 sockets and they'd have to hammer them all on.
If they want them that bad, most likely they'll steal the car and remove the wheels somewhere else.

yeah. that should do it. if i were trying to jack someone's rims, no matter how they are, i wouldn't want to spend all that time hammering into 20 lugs. haha.
