when i say powershift i mean not letting off the gas while shifting regardless of what you do (or not do) with the clutch.

what kind of sound does the engine make? :)

does it make that throaty race-car-like growl as it sucks in air? i've noticed it on my car a lot when i shift off the rev limiter. otherwise just a cool sucking sound. i heard it on the F1 cars in a few shots when they were downshifting and slowing down for turns, and i was like 'hey i've heard that before!' when a friend drove my car down the street while i was standing outside watching.

you can really hear it in this video (divx needed):

i imagine it must sound nuts when you do it in a modded 6-speed.

i dunno, maybe your friend's doing it quick. i hear the same sound on the F1 cars when they downshift while slowing down. and since when i upshift off the rev limiter and it lands way out of VVTL-i, maybe that's why it makes the same sound.

and it's definitely not a backfire.

sounds like bouncing of the revlimiter in the sound file

yeah sounds like he's bouncing off the rev limiter. You can't really hear good power shifting except that it sounds seamless between shifts.

yeah, i said i shifted off the rev limiter, but what's that growling/sucking sound it makes when it actually shifts? and yes, that was a shift, because i was driving and i tried to shift before i passed the cameraman :)

someone (gts preferably to get the lift sound) try this: powershift off the limiter slowly from 1->3, or powershift for a downshift while left foot braking...the latter's a bit harder but that should definitely make the sound...

Ive powershifted 2 to 3 a few times, bouncing off the limiter, and it didnt sound like that. Thought it was cool that my (as my friends call it) little 4 banger, .....spun its tires at 62mph!

They have since shut up , because i have handed most of them their as$es.

Cant wait to mod....TRD exhaust coming soon!.....:werd:

I've done that a few times on my auto GT-S. I'm not really sure had to re-produce it, it just happens from time to time. I think its much more excentuated when you have an intake. It takes a big gulp of air. I think what happens is around the rev-limiter, the engine stops sucking air, then you down-shift and all of a sudden its begging for air.

Its either a lack of air, or too much air, it seems. I don't think you can hear it without an intake though.

you can hear it on a normal upshift at redline, but it's severely reduced. you can defiinitely hear a plain sucking (like when the car's cold and you hear the CAI hissing) on any upshift. i haven't checked for downshift yet, although i recall it happening once. i was left foot braking and downshifting, so i was on the gas a little too. it was weird.

when you bounce off the rev limiter, i think you can hear it more on the auto cuz it drops out of lift so the sound of the 2nd cam just suddenly turns off and you just hear the intake sucking enough air for 8000rpm and gurgling/growling/whatever.

you can hear it in a lot of race cars, especially on the circuit when they downshift. especially in F1. if you've ever played Gran Turismo 3, put it on a 4-speaker setup, and left foot brake while downshifting and you can hear it, heh.
