well....as most of you know, i installed my CAI only a few weeks back.....and today was the first real downpour we've had since I got it in...

I didn't even think the puddle was that deep....but s**t ...when I hit th puddle, my car felt like it lifted, and I was just like...oh farr....quickly took my foot off the accelerator and tried to just coast (sail) thru...

When I emerged on the other side of the lake, i stepped on it again, and my car started jerking...took my foot off...and went again, it jerked again, and then drove normally after that...sheesh, that's the closest i ever wanna get to hydrolocking..

Just got back home and took off my bumper, and took off the filter....had a fair bit of water built up in the 'U' bend of the CAI, so i dried that up and put back the filter...

Def gonna be driving a lot more carefully in the rain from now on....never drive in the lane closest to the kerb when it's raining!!

Yeah i drive alot slower when its raining.
Rather be safe then sorry.

But pretty much the whole filter will have to be submerged into water for it to hydrolock i think.

How's your car feeling now man?

yeah, scares the **** outta ya when this happens.

i've had this happen a few times. i normally do pretty well keeping clear of puddles and what not, but i do get this after driving in extremely heavy rain for a long time and/or behind a car thats throwing water up into the front bar with its tyres.

from what i've read around the forum, this is mostly from the MAF sensor getting wet and stuffing up the air/fuel mix.

definately a scary feeling when something like that happens :(

Tonight it started pouring and it just occured to me only like 10min through it that i could b "hydrolocked" if i wasnt careful.

Stayed away from cars in front, but i did go over a few puddles.
But i was thinking, how would water get into the intake if i hit a puddle, when the only time it splashes is when the wheel hits it, and thats BEHIND the intake?? the splash guard is also patched up??

im thinking only huge lake-puddles that submerge the front part of the bumper would do anything??

Anyone know a definite or "more-correct" answer??

OK just read some more posts on the usual sites...

Hydrolock wont happen unless its completely submerged eg: river, lake, swimming pool, ocean.

So we're ok, it just wont be performing as good.
