My 00 Celi GT (auto) insurance premium is about 200/month right now. I have 1 speeding ticket on my record from '98.
I just bought a 2002 Suzuki GSX-R 600 w/ 4.000 miles on it. Went yesterday and put insurance on it......Only 80 every 3 months!!!
Now, why in the hell does my auto GT cost me over 500 more every 3 months than my sport bike? Both have full coverage and same deductables....

our points clear after 3 years.... but thats in CA.
the celica for some reason has a really really high insurance rate. but i priced an old miata and it came out to be roughly the same, with the same coverage and everything.
also... 2400 a year for insurance is kinda steep. i pay half that and i've got a point on my record too, and im only 19.
but once again, that's CA... dont know about other places

Bike insurance is commonly cheaper than most sporty cars. You usually can't use it as a primary vehicle year round, it is hard to damage someone elses property with one as bad as you could do with a car and they cost less to replace. Plus they won't have to shell out all that money for medical expenses since your more likely to be dead in a crash.

yeap, mine was only $240 a year when I was only 18. Just been goin down since then. I think that it is going to be around $200 this year, haven't got the bill yet.

You can do more damage with a car than you can with the bike.

I guess I'm the only person that has low insurance on a Celica. The rest of you should look into getting different insurance providers.

This is not always the case, sometimes bike insurance is higher than car because of the liability risks and the fact that if you ever get in an accident with a bike its usually totalled or atleast close because the cost of replacement parts is high. Collision is definitley not cheap on a bike. I ran liability only on my 2003 YZF R6 and I paid $500 a year..I owned it outright and it was the only way I could afford it since with collision it jumped another $1800 ($500 ded)

Geico sucks, though. Wait until you have a significant claim and see what they do to you.

I pay $16 a month for my r6. And as others have said, bikes are usually far less to insure than cars because there is usually less damage to other property, and the bike is considered totaled. As I stated in another thread my wife and I pay $205 a month for 4 vehicles combined. I have 2 tickets, and she has 1. This is through state farm. Some of you need to shop around for insurance. And don't be fooled by ads for places like geico and progressive.. They are insanely expensive unless you're 50 years old and have a perfect driving record, and drive a camry.

This probably has alot to do with where you live too...less crime less insurance cost, etc

I pay $106 for the first 9 months of the year, and then I get the last 3 months of the year off for my car insurance. I'm going throught the eerie financial group or something like that. They seem to have really good deals for young single males. I have full coverage that is way way above state minimum, forget the exact details.
They also did an extensive background check of my driving records (5 years), and I miraculously came up clean.
I think they only do business with people along/near the east coast, though.

It depends on a lot of factors. Celicas ain't cheap to insure, but there are far worse ones out there.
I have an '02 GT-S with 300/500/100 liability, $200 comprehensive and $1,000 collision deductibles in one of the most expensive insurance areas in Texas, and my premium was just reduced to $662 for six months (male, age 38, married, clean record).
Again -- at $110 per month it's not cheap, but not outrageous, especially with the very high liability. The only thing I can suggest is to shop around, as different insurers do have somewhat different pricing and underwriting criteria.

I switched back to geico...I'm paying $97/mo for a 00 Avalon and my celica and breaking it down it comes to $52/mo for the celica. I'm 26, Married and my wife has had 3 tickets in the past 3 years and I've had 2 vandalism claims, but have had Geico for 7 years.

I still get the discount cuz geico is partners with Navy Federal C.U.
Mistri is kinda right though, one big claim and Geico MAY drop your ass...they dropped my Celica last year cuz they said my modded celica would be too expensive to insure, now that the car is back to stock and it's days are numbered....I went back for the cheaper rate...I was paying $125/mo with Progressive.

I think the reason is fairly obvious.
Car Cost > Bike Cost
You are insuring something that prolly has almost a $10,000 differance atleast?

True True, I'm just thinking that I go ALOT faster on my bike than in my slow ass Celi. And, a bike accident would be alot more medical expense than a car accident would in most cases.
