sup guys..
this is on all the scheduled maintenances for our cars (15k, 30k, etc..)..
cant remember everything the mechanic told me but he said this was probably the most important part of the maintenance besides all the other checks&services..
cant remember what all is involved in the EFI service..
can we do this ourselves?..
can someone give the step-by-step?...
thanx

Does anyone have any insight to the EFI service as to what does it entail and will a person that is somewhat mechanically incline be able to do this from their own garage?
Thanks in advance,
Hector

I wonder if it has anything to do with the ignition system.

I wonder that as well, I'm sure it has to do with fuel injectors and fuel filter, maybe even the gas cap, but I don't know exactly what the service entails.
Any gurus willing and able to give us your insight would be greatly appreciated.

This kit hooks to the fuel rail. The fuel pump fuse is pulled.

As the engine runs off of the propane, a cleaner removes carbon deposits from the injector's nozzle. When the car dies due to lack of fuel (can is empty) the kit is removed and the fuse is reinstalled.
Or you can add injector cleaner to the car's fuel tank. Some cars will octane knock when it is added (Ex. using 2nd gear instead of 1st to start rolling - using a higher gear to soon).
To be 100% sure that the injector nozzle needs cleaning or that the nozzle is in perfect condition, the spray pattern must be inspected and flow rate checked.
No one goes to this extream at regular intervals except people who race for a living, however it should be done at major overhaul (the injectors will already be out at this time). Atomization of fuel spray isn't as critical in our cars than in a Formula One cars, but it does play a role in favorable gas milage.

Keeping the injectors clean and atomizing the fuel properly does wonders for a car.
I had my injectors done with my rebuild. The report card said both flow and spray patter where FAIR before the cleanup, good after.
Just to give you an idea:
Injector # Flow before Flow after
1 : 98 : 110
2 : 106 : 110
3 : 96 : 110
4 : 102 : 110
Everything else on the engine stayed the same (only crank was turned and new rod bearings installed, no rings and other stuff). With the cleaned injectors and new NGK IX plugs and my same old driving habits (not pushing engine too much) I have seen my mileage improve more than 15%. Power is also more linear and no hesitations like before.

Sounds good to me, but how is it that a person would go about cleaning the injectors? Second, how do you know if you need to replace htem? I don't think I am in need of new injectors since I get pretty good gas mileage, but I'm sure a little cleaning won't hurt anything.
Any insight is greatly appreciated,
Hector

Unless you have the specialized equipment can't really do the proper cleanup and testing yourself. Most of the time a bottle of injector cleaner in the tank will work good if the injectors aren't too clogged.

EFI service is not as hard as you think. I do about 10 a day at work. It doesn't have to be hooked up to the fuel rail. The way I do it works just as good. What I do is: Its a three step procedure. I use a brand called RunRite. First bottle goes in the crankcase for engine oil, The second goes in the fuel tank: that one is a fuel injector cleaner (not like the ones you buy in stores, it is concentrated) The final and third step(most important one). There is a metal can with a tube stuck in it, you fill that with the third chemical, then tighter it down. There is a hose on the other side of the gauge on the can which is regulated. You hook up that hose a good vacuum source closes possible to the throttle body. Let it drip about 2 drops per second or very slow stream. The whole time the third step is being done 4cyl engine has to be set to run at ~1700 rpm. It takes about 30 mins to do step 3, so don't think you can sit in your car for 30 mins steady at ~1700 rpm, its get BORING. It also comes with a throttle body cleaner which is very good shyt too.
BEFORE/AFTERS:

2. OIL SYSTEM (http://www.run-rite.com/industry/beforeafter_pist.jpg)
3. INTAKE CLEANER (http://www.run-rite.com/industry/beforeafter_step3.jpg)

Pep Boys and Autozone have it. You run it in your gas tank, oil, and through your intake system from the PCV hose into the throttle body.
