View Full Version : anybody read april issue of SCC yet

specifically the eight great rides of 2002. The GT-S made it again making it a three-peat, but there were some disturbing details that would make me not get a 2002 if i did not have my 2001.
Note- they did report that they had a glitchy ecu that wouldnt let them rev pass 7500rpm.
First, how is it that the ford focus, while not a bad car, gets the same time for the 1/4mi at 15.8 and 0-80mph they are ahead on the stopwatch. They have less hp and are heavier by 228pounds.
Even the tiburon, mr2 spyder, and sentra spec v beat out the GT-S in the 1/4mi. All of these vehicle actual hp rating was lower than the GT-S and heavier in weight except the mr2, so how in the world could this be right. FACT: drivers of SCC are the problem. I like my celi and i know its not the fastest thing on the planet, but geesh, being beat out by a focus or mr2 stock for stock is embarrassing.
The only car there that i would say should get its props and it did, would be the wrx.

Well you can't just look at weight and hp alone although there are other factors too, gearing might have something to do with it. And they couldn't stay in Lift as long as the 2001 so that might be a factor too. And everyone has already stated that the '02 Celica GTS's are a bit slower in the quarter.

I saw that the GT-S' had 162 hp @ the wheels .. and 168 for the RSX-S
i'm wondering why the gts isn't a faster car the 1/4.. i know there are a lot factors.. but please enlighten me someone

The RSX-S is acura, magazine's seems to drive faster with honda/acura!!!

umm, cause there is something called a powerband, and when the celica originally had a powerband of 2300 rpms, that was way too small. Now it is at 1800 rpms, which makes things worse. The one they were testing had a powerband of 1500 rpms, even worse. I doubt they were even able to get much of the rated power out of that thing if it was only revving to 7500 to begin with. The gearing in the GTS blows. That said, I still think there are too many things to an 01 or 00 that make it a crazy fun car to drive. It would still be number one on my list of FWD cars, simply because the suspensions have so much potential.

the 02 got screwed this year cuz of the rev limiter...

Last year we got a 14.9 outta our Celica....

have u guys seen the first 8 great rides that the gts made it in scc did o-60 in 6.5 and the 1/4 in 14.9 ..... I think that the revlimiter just threw them off on the new one.

Also they mention that toyota said it was a glitch in the ecu...can we bank on that to get it changed?
