View Full Version : Question for those with Tanabe coilovers and maybe Tein HA

I have my Tanabe coilovers installed. The back I can drop it almost as close to the ground as possible (well that is with the spare and a full tank of gas). But the front, I still have about between 1 and 2 finger gap even with them all the way down. Does anyone else have this issue? Do you think I can just take off the helper springs and raise it a little to get rid of all the fender gap? I'm asking this because when I look at the helper springs, it is ALWAYS completely compressed, so I don't know if there is even a reason for it being there (it just makes my height not as adjustable).

Also does anyone have any squeaking noises in the front suspension? Everytime I go over bumps quickly it sounds like a mice lives in the engine bay.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
(Maybe Tein HA owners might be able to answer my question about the helper springs too).

the squeaking noise that u heard is actually gas/air release from the coilover itself... I live in NY n when the weather is cold those TEIN squeak ever louder sounded like they about to fell apart. so dun worry n enjoy....

Peter, I only have TRD springs, but I hear the exact same squeaking noise from my front passenger wheel area when going over bumps. This has been going on since the day the springs were installed.

Make sure all the bolts are tightened to spec, especially the sway bar endlinks (known for making all sorts of noises when overtightened or broken).

Did you buy the coilovers for looks or for handling?

^^^I'm down with that response. Tanabe makes coilovers with and without the helper spring. There is a difference. I have several HA dampers and I would suggest you never take out the helper spring. It's there for a specific purpose. You would be better off cutting stock Toyota springs for example. Just don't do it. Lowering your car to the ground isn't always the best, unless for show. If you need the specifics on the Tanabe's it's coming.
