I need your opinions on lowering springs. I have a 00' GT-S that I am running in street touring this year. I probably am not going to put konis on it, so I was wondering what you thought about lowering springs (will they hurt, help). The springs I am looking at are the Eibach 1" drop. I don't know the spring rates on them. Also what alignment would you recommend for a GT-S in STS? thanks

I would go with the Eibach or TRD (they are almost the same).
Try to find a linear rate spring. The progressive rate ones are crap. 1" to 1.5" drop is as far as I would go on the stock shocks.
As for the alignment, after the car is lowered, use crash bolts (see http://home.earthlink.net/~celica73/camber.jpg) to get about -2 degrees in front. On a lowered car that will probably only require a single dot 3 bolt on each side.
In the rear get about -1.3 to -1.5 degrees camber.
Go with zero toe all the way around, maybe 1/8 inch of toe in i the rear for extra stability, 1/8 inch toe out in front will make turn in a little crisper.

Do not get stiffer springs without upgrading the shocks. End of story.
Oh, so you want to know why. Jeez, fine. Stiffer springs will wear out the OEM shocks in a hurry. After 6 months or a year, your Celica will be bouncing around the roads and you will need to buy new shocks.
I loved the looks of my car with TRD Springs and stock shocks, but felt that handling and ride comfort were both worse than stock when pushing the car hard. In normal driving the ride was actually better than stock until I'd hit a big bump and the suspension bottomed out. This was easy to do with that set up.
Now I have the TRD Sportivo kit and love it.

I've loved the dual-role that the TRD springs play. I drive highway miles 100x more than I do racing or the like so I love the progressive ride. While not the greatest "road" ride, it's nice.
When you get to the autox meet, I'm still loving the springs. Again, I'd love to have GCs with constant rate springs, but TRDs are better than stock.
For anyone who has to live in both worlds....the TRDs are a good choice.
As for the stock shocks....no problems. I have NEVER bottomed this suspension out. I don't know how that would be possible unless you don't cut the bump stops. And trust me, the roads in the midwest are no better than any place I've ever been.
