Had an interesting run-in with a sheriff tonight... was pulling out of autozone with my parking lights on (blue led's) and my foglights and I see a sheriff go by. As usual i flipped on the headlights hoping he would ignore me... So I make my left turn and fall in about 3 cars behind the sheriff. Then the sheriff makes a double u-turn (360) and gets behind me throws on the lights. Puts the big spotlight on me, and comes up beside the car. Asks to see my drivers license, then asks to see my license to be a policeman. yadda yadda says come back to the car, we need to talk, might arrest you, yadda yadda. Thought that was interesting... i always thought that colored bulbs were just a fix-it ticket... guess not, or maybe its just these small town cops that always pull the imports over... sure glad i only visit this town on breaks

believe it or not, a person I know was pulled over by an officer, and when asked why the officer had pulled him over, the officer told him he was writing him up for the cell phone he was using. Apparently he was talking on the phone at the time and he had one of those blue LED flashing antennas.
That's gotta be the lamest one I've heard yet. He went to court and the judge dismissed his case.

Sorry boys but like it or not blue lights are NOT legal in most states. Anywhere on the car.
It is also illegal to show red lights on the front of a car. Even if they are not on.

I talked to a cop when he was writing up my accident and he saw my blue bulbs. He asked me if they blinked and I said no. Apparently in KY, it's ok to have blue bulbs showing from the front of your car if they don't blink. Even if they are pure blue like the LED's, just as long as they don't blink. Red, however, is not allowed to be showing anywhere on the front.

I'll have to pass that along to one of my friend's. He has the whole Knight Rider light thing going on his car (something old and beat up, I forget what it is). It's one of those things where something's so stupid and funny it's halfway cool :)

you'll hear this over and over: check your local state laws. as a general rule, front turn signals can be white or orange. the rear turn signals can be white, orange, or red. therefore, if you have superwhites, then u won't have a problem. but they are extremely bright when they blink.

That's not right. I don't think he can really get away with you "impersonating a Police officer". If he arrested you I would have pressed charges and got his ass in trouble. That's just going to far. If her gave you anymore than a Fixit Ticket. I'd talk to a lawyer.

Yes, you can get charged for impersonating an officer. Just ask Selika2000! Of course the cop was being as as$hole about it, and threatened to tow her car and have some one pick her up for her red turn signals and side markers. So silly girl calls me, but I can't pick her up cause I have the same lights!! Luckily, she had her original orange bulbs in the car and she offered to change them right there and he dropped the whole "impersonating an officer" crap. It's just a law that they can throw in your face when they feel like being d*cks, ya know, it's not like she's maliciously trying to go out and impersonate a cop with her silver Celica.
dragonfrog is right, laws are different in each state, but here in AZ I know you cannot in any way have white blinkers in the rear of the car. Red and orange only in the rear (excluding reverse lights and license plate lights, which have to be white). And amber for the front only for blinkers and side markers.

in that case: well, then i retract my general rule. or rather, change it to red and orange in rear only. :D
