Do you know clear corners are illegal? Did you drive the car anyway?
There is a reason for amber colors on the car. They aren't there so folks can change them, they are there because federal laws say they have to be there.

No need for the cop to be a ****head though
See if they have that pull over on tape in the car.
Then report it to his CHIEF ..... sure they might tell you more about the clear corners ... but they will also side with you on the fact he did this unprofesionally.
Do this report in an professinal way ... and not pouting or bitching . Peeps then would take you more seriously and help you more. Maybe even ask a lawyer if you have a case. But report this right away for him being unprofesional. You'll just feel better knowing the chief will chew his ass out ... and "hopefully" he'll think twice about it next time he sees somethin minor about that.

I was told clear corners are illegal but if you have amber blubs in there then you should be fine. Anyone, that CHP was a **** for tripping over something like clear corners. He was acting like a punk. You should go file a complaint with CHP, every police station/district will have somesort of citizen complaint center. Yeah, maybe your clear corner was illegal but he shouldn't have gone that far with what he did. But you aren't the only one. There was another member on this board who too was harass, given a load of ****, and ticketed by a cop for just stoping in a Handicap sign in some sort of supermarket.
Cops like these make people distrust and hate cops even more.

Clears are illegal in most states. Even blue and yellow Ion bulbs etc. I used the suplied amber bulbs when I put my corners on so I can't get busted. But What this cop did was total and complete BS! I am highly pissed just reading it. First off Clear corners with bulbs that work are 100% better than clear corners with no bulbs and won't work. Why he did this was Effen BS! I would of told him to shove it right there. He has no right to make you do the stuff he told you to do without a dam good reason. And he giving you a punk ass attitude is total BS. I would have told him to lick my nuts if he's gonna talk that way. He has no right to make you take that apart as it makes it more illegal than before. Now I could understand if they were neons or something while you were driving.
I am usually very nice and respectful of police officers. I try to cooperate 100% with them. But when one cops an attitude I get pissed. I had this happen to me on the way home from Long Island a few years back when I had my all-trac. I was doing 7mph over the speed limit (65zone) and was getting passed when the cop clocked me. He pulled me over because my rims, exhaust, etc. Harrase a kid. He gave me a bunch of crap about the speed limit and driving dangerously, and illegal exhausts and using race parts on a street car etc. I got pretty pissed and told him how it was. Basically that my car was within legal limits and gave him a hard time as to why he pulled me over when I was getting passed which he flatly denied. And that I knew he seemed to be more interested in harrassing me because I had this stuff done more than anything. I was basically being a smart ass and letting him know I was pissed for the way he was acting. My friend in the drivers seat backed me up cause we saw him when he clocked us. He got pissed as us and gave me a nice $165 fine and some points.

i hate it more when cops abuse their rights and privileges than when normal people/civilians do.
BTW, my right clear corner bulb keeps falling out of the socket. i just noticed the other day that one doesn't light up, meaning it fell out again. so only my left clear corner is on. Is this seriously wrong, should I fix it immediately? i didn't know there was a huge fuss about clear corners. i see them all the time on cars here.
Sometimes, I wish there were police to police the police... lol
you know, like a supervisor to police the cops themself. Like one of us!

VW Jetta's come stock with clear corners. Also, what the officer fails to ask realize or care about... THIS IS NOT MY CAR! He never once asked whos car it was or what I was doing with it. Geez, for all he knew I could have stole it but he didnt care he just was harrassing me because I am a 20 year old male with clear corners going 5mph over the speed limit. Like I'd be racing in a Probe!

I really hope you got his badge number. My lawyer always tells me that is I erver get pulled over for anything I should always make sure I get the badge number in case I ever need it. Also, he said to never be a **** to the cop. In you caseI would have refused to mess with my clears and told the pig I wanted to speak with my attorney before doing anything else. The worst that would have happened would be that he would have arrested you for disobeying a police officer. I'm pretty sure most highway patrol cars, at least in Missouri and I'm pretty sure in Virginia (I don't see why this wouldn't be the case in most states) have cameras in the dashes of their cruisers. If you had gotten arrested you most likely would have had a serious case against the CHP. Definately call a lawyer.
If I'm kind of rambling here it's cause I havent gotten much sleep all week due to midterms... sorry.
edit: I f'in hate pigs who abuse their power. I can't count the number of times in St. Louis when there's been a cop behind me and I was going the speed limit only to see the cop turn on his blue and reds. Know why he did? So he could pass me in a no passing zone! WTF!

TA DA!!! If CHP stands for California Highway Patrol then that ass hole should read the ****ing law before going agro on anyone.

(b) Any diffused nonglaring light shall not display red to the front, but may display other colors. A diffused nonglaring light shall not resemble nor be installed within 12 inches or in such position as to interfere with the visibility or effectiveness of any required lamp, reflector, or other device upon the vehicle.
(c) A diffused nonglaring lamp or device, other than a display sign authorized by subdivision (d), shall be limited in size to an area of 720 square inches and where any lease, rental, or donation is involved the installation of the lamp or device shall be limited to those vehicles operated either primarily within business or residential districts or municipalities, or between business districts, residential districts, and municipalities in close proximity.

Here's another statement of law from California:
25950. This section applies to the color of lamps and to any reflector exhibiting or reflecting perceptible light of 0.05 candela or more per foot-candle of incident illumination. Unless provided otherwise, the color of lamps and reflectors upon a vehicle shall be as follows:
(a) The emitted light from all lamps and the reflected light from all reflectors, visible from in front of a vehicle, shall be white or yellow, except as follows:
(1) Rear side marker lamps required by Section 25100 may show red to the front.
(2) The color of foglamps described in Section 24403 may be in the color spectrum from white to yellow.
(b) The emitted light from all lamps and the reflected light from all reflectors, visible from the rear of a vehicle, shall be red except as follows:
(1) Stoplamps on vehicles manufactured before January 1, 1979, may show yellow to the rear.
(2) Turn signal lamps may show yellow to the rear.
(3) Front side marker lamps required by Section 25100 may show yellow to the rear.
(4) Backup lamps shall show white to the rear.
(5) The rearward facing portion of any front-mounted double-faced turn signal lamp may show amber to the rear while the headlamps or parking lamps are lighted, if the intensity of the light emitted is not greater than the parking lamps and the turn signal function is not impaired.
(6) Reflectors meeting the requirements of and installed in accordance with Section 24611 shall be red or white, or both.
(c) All lamps and reflectors visible from the front, sides, or rear of a vehicle, except headlamps, may have any unlighted color, provided the emitted light from all lamps or reflected light from all reflectors complies with the required color. Except for backup lamps, the entire effective projected luminous area of lamps visible from the rear or mounted on the sides near the rear of a vehicle shall be covered by an inner lens of the required color when the unlighted color differs from the required emitted light color. Taillamps, stoplamps, and turn signal lamps that are visible to the rear may be white when unlighted on vehicles manufactured before January 1, 1974.
Amended Ch. 1220, Stats. 1994. Effective September 30, 1994.
Amended Sec. 38, Ch. 766, Stats. 1995. Effective January 1, 1996.
FYI: Section 25100 refers to vehicles that are 80 inches or greater in width, which comes out to a little over 6 feet. Any vehicle less then that (like ours) is exempt from those rules.

Okay...most of you know how I feel about disrespecting cops...
But f@#$ that in this case..
You need to take that COP down cuz there's NO WAY in hell, what he made you do is LEGAL at ALL.
I've NEVER EVER heard of a COP doing that.
It's obvious this cop is a total powermonger...you need to REPORT him ASAP to keep him from doing this **** to OTHER people.
Cops don't have the right to make you do something like that..it's not their job.
They can impound your car, give you tickets and fines..but they CANNOT do things like that.
That's total bull****.
What part of Cali are you in?
I know most of the CHP officers in the Sacto area..give me the dude's name and I'll see what's up.

Cheap in car infrared (see in the dark) system. Total price: $430.
All bought at Sam's Club. Two "Achiever" brand cameras. B&W low light (0.5 lux) w/ infrared lights, and microphones. One Achiever brand switching monitor with 12v camera supply. One Samsung 960hr. security VCR recorder (this was $349 of total price). These can be run on a cheap Uniden or other 350w 12v-120v converter. This converter is quite small, as are the cameras and the 5" monitor. The cameras are weather proof. You can run one front and rear, or put one right out the driver's side window, right in the scumbag cop's face.
Howdoyalike the citizen now? This issue has nothing to do with lights or speed. This was just a low life, an embarrassment to other cops.
/////////////////////////01GTS/////////////////////////6sp//////////////////
note: I have not fully installed my camera system as yet. It the cameras seem to work well so far, up to about 15 feet in total darkness, and the audio is excellent. The cameras and monitor were under $100 and will only get cheaper.
ALL cops in the LA area are an embarrasment to other cops. Everything you hear about LAPD is TRUE. Except it is actually worse.
I don't blame you for not standing up to this PIG. He might have murdered you or framed you for a far more serious crime.

thats pretty harsh man. i mean that cop was psycho and on a powertrip. and which "federal law" would you be talking about. maybe california law you mean? even still i somehow doubt they have to be amber, i know for a fact in florida they can be white. the bulbs that have to be amber are the BLINKING bulbs.

You know diesal, you're right. I had a So. CA license once. I live back east now. The difference is that people out here still expect a certain level of professionalism from thier State Troopers. The Troopers tend to respond to this. Out in LA it seems like everything is all about fox news, helicopters, cops shows, scandals, Rodney King and riots. Perhaps there is no hope. Cops out there have become the cop equivalent of fast food.
Here are a couple of hints I have learned on the backroads over the years, in an attempt to develop a repoire with cops (I don't like cops at all by the way). When you get pulled over, take notice of the cop's rank. Learn the stripes. Address a sheriff as "sheriff" a seargent as "seargent", a trooper as "trooper" etc. Cops prefer this to "sir". Just remember, what you did or did not do, whether you think it has to do with lights, speed, or whatever, in reality none of this matters with the cop. He (or she) just needs his ego stroked. That's job 1. Also, he needs to know you have no gun and are no threat. Keep your hands on the wheel. Have your flashers on. Have you info ready and the glovebox open. If the cop is wrong, you will get off easier by telling him he is right. Paint your car bright red and be an enthusiast and you will be better off than driving a black car fast in the slow lane and being elusive. We can't change the McCops. But doing things like this may make your encounter more like at least a T.G.I Fricop.

They are such morons. Dont they have better things to do like stop people from beating there wives or murderers or an even bigger LA problem GANGS. NO because there pansy's.
ok... so the cop was an asshole. But my question is WHY did you let him treat you that way? you do have rights and if you express your rights and he gets pissed about it.. well its his fault... For one you didn't have to get out of the car without reason.. i mean sure thats not a big deal... its cooperation. So you started off on a good foot. BUT you did not have to open the hood of the car or rip any wires out. He had no probably cause. Wow 5mph over the speed limit. You could have simply said "sir, I do not see any probable cause for you to accuse me of things that aren't true, and i'm not opening the hood or pulling any wires until you give me a good reason as to why i was even pulled over"... he'd probably get pissed.. but i think part of the reason he took advantage of you is that you didn't seem in touch with the law as far as your rights and what you can and can't do. If you said something like that it may have come to a shock that you actually know your rights and that he has no reason to make you do those things. If he took you to jail for refusing to cooperate in those things.. he would have had no proof that you even did anything wrong other then doing 5mph over the speed limit. His supervisor or the sheriff probably would have reprimanded him for doing something so stupid. What he did to you was pretty much a waste of time.. he could have been pulling someone over that was doing well over 5mph over the speed limit and it would have been a worse offense.
Next time a cop pulls you over for something so stupid... don't open the hood, don't rip wires out... express that you know your rights. Take his badge number and report him. Right after he did all that you should have went straight to the CHP station and filed a complaint... i'm sure your bloody hand would have convinced the supervisors.

This is not true. Federal law doesn't mandate a color for corner or side markers. The can't be certain colors but that doesn't mean you can't change them. State laws may be different though.
