View Full Version : Smog Nazis March on NY

While the mechanic at my local shop was fixing my car, he was kind enough to alert me to some fun new NY laws. A new law was passed and will go into effect July 1st. It basically says that on top of emissions testing they will hook up a computer to the ODBII and check "readiness codes" (whatever that means) to see if the computer says that emissions are okay as well. In other words no PFC for me. :cry: Have any of you encountered this and/or gotten around it with PFC?

you stick the stock ecu back in for the test... takes what.. 10 min tops?

They've been doing it that way in mass for a few years now.

Not that easy. The computer has to have seen driven data for a set number of miles and I'm not sure what that is. I don't know if the mechanics know either.

How have you CA guys gotten around it?

You do realize that you can buy a stock ECU that is used. If the miles don't match up, then you can tell them that it is a different oem ecu

how often is the test? It's every two years in MD, I would just run the stock ECU for a month before the test, I drive like about 1500 miles in a month, I think that would be enough

Easy way around it. Purchase the Hydra Nemesis 2.0 EMS. OBDII port.

PFC = old technology.

We had emissions testing in Florida for years. The simple fact was that 94% of the cars passed and the ones that didn't, didn't really make an impact on the atmosphere.

Actually, just by working with Teco Electric in Hillsborough County, 30,000 tons of harmful emissions per year were removed. That is obviously much more then the 700 tons put out by the failing cars.

I'd rather be living with cleaner, fresher air than to have it more polluted than anything.
