its not what I would call slow...
Just hard as hell to land on the big cam on the 1-2 shift :(
goddamn fuel cutoff >:(

its not slow....
it is hard to land on the big cam but that doesn't mean its impossible. its only like .3 sec slower than the 00-01. You can always get some aftermarket part to make up the time.
welli drive a 02 gts and i think it's fine. though it sucks the gas cut off is a little earlier but it's actually not a very bad thing. i look onthe bright side of things.i one of those ppl who don't pay toomuch attention to while my blood is pumping when when i'm gunning it. if it wasn't for the limiter, i'd have passed redline on my car too manytimes. good thing for the limiter, i know my car is always in good condition since i can't go past redline and **** anything up :)
and believe me, it's still ****ing fast once u hit 6000rpm

With all of this I still don't understand wtf toyota was thinking?! If you misshift, it doesn't matter where fuel cutoff is.. you're gonna fudge it up anyways....
Just stupid band-aid with the 02... stupid as anything I've ever seen.

I was at the auto show in Minneapolis today and I talked to one of the salesman at the Toyota booth and he of course had no clue that the 02 had a lowered fuel cutoff .....

I have a 02' and we are slower. Acceleration is still their its just not consistent. Everytime you fall out of lift youl lose a little. Its nothing so serious to not buy the car. However it does affect its performance anyway you cut it.

I thought bouncing off the fuel cutoff or rev limiter is a bad thing?
I did it once the other day and about gave myself a heart attack...
trying to squeeze those last few rmps out before I absolutely have to shift..
dont get the 02 unless u have to...prolly only a lil faster than a gt! with my mods im prolly only a lil faster than a 01 stock gts...and with the lower rev u end up misshifting more cuz u tryin to shift faster to stay in lift...i really regret not gettin the 01 when i could but o well

A red line is a piece of paint. Lawyers and bean counters put in rev limiters. Ask anyone who races them, these engines are safely capable of 9000 rpm.
also when i race ppl pull on me when im shifting even when i do stay in lift cuz ur not in the poweband for as long as u should be...i can only hang with cars i should be beating..(prelude, gsrs, del sols all lightly modified like mine)

I drove 01 and 02 GTS - bought the 02. The gear box is much smoother & easier to shift. For me I hadn't planned on reving my ride past redline too much anyway - there is a reason for it being red! So for me the '02 was it. BTW, the '02 can still take a RSX Type S - Look in TeamUnison forum.
That said, I'm looking for the day when an aftermarket ECU is available that kicks in lift at 5500 RPM. Then I can stay in lift all the time without risking damage to the car reving the $hit out of it.
Ya i have an 02 and i still LOVE my car ... the fuel cuttoff is a minor thing ... and minor .. like someone said its like a .3 differance.
Anyway i was just driving my celi around today and ran out of places to go LOL and showoff the car. MANY LOOKS! ... and the blood was pumpin when i hit the lift every time! everthing from thumbs up to girls lickin there lips at me ... ONE HOT ONE ACTUALLY DID !!! im not lying lol. Then she turned :( and i couldnt find her. but the celi cruzing went on and the love for my car grew stronger.
Oh and red lineing it is fun but if you are in red line in 2nd or 3rd ... pray to god there is not a cop around. That is one good reson that i like the fuel cuttoff.
Heck maybe Blitz replacement ECU will do the trick for us!

its your choice Vroom_Vroom. Do you want a used car that has like 20k+ miles on it and goes .3 faster in the quarter, or do you want a brand new one with the options you want and is easily capable of the same performance with computer chip.

a computer chip?? not necesarily.. no one has figured out hwo to defeat this yet.. may be an entire replacement ECU which is more like 1000 and alot of wiring
i personally think it would be at least half a second difference...the third gear is supposedly the strongest gear for the gts but that is the gear which i always loose in...when i shift to third cars just start to pull on me cuz i cant stay in 2nd and 3rd long enuff before shifting. Also, didnt some magazine say 14.9 for a 00 gts while recelty the same mag said 15.8 for the 02? that alone should tell u how much of a diffference it is. I still like my car alot tho juss kinda suks that i coulda got a 01 =)
