i purchased the panasonic dvd player that he was selling for $200
shipped, hooked it up to my alpine monitor and all i get is "reading disc" message for about 30sec's and then "cd playback error" contacted him about it and all he can say is "sorry" and try to file a claim with the USPS that it was their fault....asked for my money back and he said "money is already spoken for" so now i'm out $200, it wouldn't make sense for me to fix it since it would cost at least $100

better to pay an extra 100 for something than 200 for nothing.
You are ouut the 200 no matter what, so that is a sunk cost. You have to forget about it. Try to get it back with UPS-I think it is automatically insured for 100. If you can at least get that from them- that would pay for repair costs, maybe even leave a little extra, but if not, then you have to go by what I said about it being a sunk cost, and forgetting about the 200 in regards to what you are going to do about repairing it.

sounds like the laser pickup is either dirty or needs to be replaced. Try opening it up, get a q-tip, spray some windex on it, and swab the laser eye gently to remove any dust that could cause it to not read the dvd. if that doesnt work then most likely the pickup needs to be replaced.
