Hi all,
Was reading through the www.lotuscars.com.au web site and came across the new lotus.
It's the fastest Lotus ever built running 0-100 in 5.2 secs!
And get this.... its spec'd with exactly the same motor and 6spd box as ours.

875kg with no options compared to our 1190 kg :P that makes a bit of a difference i think :)

Does anyone know the weight difference between the SX and ZR?

basically the same i think 2 airbags, sunroof and that might be it.
on the toyota specs page i think they give the same weight. its probably no more than 10 - 15 kg difference and would vary based on options. so i guess they just stated that weight :)

I believed they are actually specially tuned motors of what we have, comforming to the usual Lotus spirit :)
From what I've learnt the torque dip at the 6000rpm cam changeover point has been smoothed out, and there are improvements at other rpm ranges as well. Much of that are ECU reprogramming, as well as their own set of intake/exhaust system.
For the USDM, their tuned 2ZZ-GE units has gains of 10HP over the stock (USDM) 2ZZ-GE output. I wonder if the Lotus Elise for other markets have even greater gains than that?
It'll be interesting to see the Oceania specs for the Lotus Elise too. What a car!

its meant to have the same peak amount of power i think, but like you said it would be interesting to see what they have done to the power band :)

VVTLi Powered is correct.
I remember reading bout it in the Herald Sun "cars guide"
and yeh, its the same stuff as ours, but tuned (highly?) so that the torque is more beneficial for the car.

The Lotus is around 94k.
It is very stripped down and from what i have been told they dont have stereos and other nice things.

these things have bugger all.
incl. the above mentioned, the seats dont adjust, there is SFA room, and the roof takes bloody ages to put on (manually, obviously).
it is, in all honesty, a road registered go kart :D
i'd love to take one for a fang however, it'd be unreal to feel how the 2zz performs under that sort of weight. word around the rumour mill is that the lotus owners have always been keen on mods in the states, so hopefully we'll see some interesting products that we can make use of.
