Does anyone with a GT have any problems with their 1 to 2 shift? I can't ram 1st to 2nd anymore without it grinding. I know it's not my fault either because all the other gears are fine. I went to the dealer and showed them and they gave me all the BS and said that the Celica is a "Woman's car" and that it isn't supposed to be driven fast like that. You can guess how i reacted to that. So they basically said that i would have to deal with it and that it is normal. Which by the way I'm not about to put up with. Does anyone have any insight on this?

Actually in a way they are right. Like it or not the Celica is a "chick" car.

Regardless of that.... You should NEVER "ram" the gears in any gearbox/transmission and yes you can shift fast without "ramming" the gears.

I had the same problem, and I thought my gears were all messed up. Thing is...I was pretty ignorant and didn't realize that my floor mat was slightly in the way of the clutch being *all the way* down when shifting. When my clutch was all the way down, with nothing interfering with it, my shifts are very smooth. I doubt it needs lubrication. Hope this might help.

Let's see here, you are used to "raming" it from 1 to 2... Your synchronizers fo rthe 2nd gear are used to it as well. Unfortunately they ahve now retired, and don't work anymore.

All the others work because you don't "ram" it bwteeen those gears.

So, yes, it *is* your fault even though the other gears all work. Every gear has a synchronizer (except reverse) it is possible to wear them out independantly.

75% of the folks on these message boards may have too much testosterone, but the target market for the Celica is over 80% women, it is a "chicks" car, that's who Toyota made it for...

A) They like it
B) They buy it

Do yourself a little survey. When you see one driving down the road check out the driver. Male or Female? Be prepared you probably won't like the results.

If it bother's you to own a "chick" car sell it and buy a Mustang, wait that's a chick car too. Sorry Ford sells 300,000 Mustang's a year and not all of them are Cobra's, most are V6's driven by guess what... Women.

Me, I like driving a "chick" car.

it is prolly ur synchro wearing out... i've had similiar prob sometime last year. i've got my whole tranny replaced under warranty.... and how is it a chick car when i see most of them are owned by guys... phuck em dealer assholezz

Yah its your synchro. I thought it was my floormat at first, but that wasnt the problem. I took it into toyota, and they replaced my gears and synchros from 1st to 4th, and also reverse.

Reverse gear doesn't have a synchro.

Dunno about you guys, but almost all the celicas I've seen on the road are drivin by guys, I live in the GTA and from what I remember, I don't think I've seen a women driving a celica before... Maybe once, but I'm sure I haven't seen more then one woman driving a Celica, Mazda MX-3s yes tons of women drivers, Civics tons of women drivers, but Celica, no... I think the sleek appearance of the Celica makes a lot of people(people who don't own them) think its a "chick" car, and it is somewhat true, but in the end, Celicas are mostly driven by guys(from what I've seen)... I don't think there really is a "chick" car these days, all the new cars that are coming out have the crazy and aggressive styling that usually aren't associated with the small "cute" cars that are supposed to be designed for women... Well, except the Focus and Protoge5 =)

As much as I hate to admit it, it is a chick car that is why I put my mods on it so that it is more of a guys car or at least I find it to look more like a guys car with the mods, When ever I see a celica I make sure to pull up to it to see if its a hot chick driving, same goes for a red Mustang, an RSX, Integra, Civic, etc..
