Not many of you guys know that I sell cars for a living, but I sell GMC, Buick, and Pontiac as well as Saturn and Lexus. Anyways, I sold my very first Pontiac GTO today. Phantom Black Metalic with black leather interior. It was the 5th GTO we got in and the 1st 6spd. I have gone with customers on the test drives on the other automatics we've had. My customer took me on a short drive before we did all the paperwork and I must say I was impressed. It felt a bit stronger than the WS6's we've had. Just thought I'd share.

Well I wouldn't call it mean. I would call it more of a sleeper.

Yeah, I don't think the car looks all that mean, I think it looks rather subdued with that Pontiac front end. But it sure is a great performer. I have been contemplating getting one, but if I do, I would most likely try and get the Holden front end for it...

I drove an automatic at work (Valet) the other day and was impressed with it. I can only imagine what the 6speed is like. Glad to see Pontiac making a come back!

Most enthuasist wanted it to look more original instead of a stretched cavalier or grand prix. It just sucks I absolutely hate the placement of the exhaust pipes but i do love the interior.

It sucks because it costs more than the old Camaro, looks worse (it looks like a two door Pontiac!), is slower, and doesn't handle as well.

An interesting idea. If they hadent called it a GTO they may have had more luck with it. And if they hadent discontinued the Trans Am and made it seem like this was the replacement. They probably would have done alot beter to.

Maybe they should have gone retro with the GTO like Ford with their new gen Mustangs.

I love the rear seats, but the outside is as hideously repulsive as any other pontiac

thank god you are not familiar with plain Opel designs from early 90's that got Opel almost to complete failure in europe ... it will suffice to say that Holden takes a lot from those older Opel plain designs

A few reasons why the GTO is the way it is (coming from Pontiac Division)
1. They didn't do a retro look because they have found that the sales of retro designed cars tend to drop off after a few years.
2. They were given only 18 months to develope the GTO so they had to take something that was already in existance (Holden Monaro)
3. The GTO is not the replacement to the F-Body. It was never meant to replace the Trans AM. Everyone just assumes that since it came 2 years after the last F-Body was discontinued.

Radr,
do you get the HSV tuned vehicles or the HSV body kits?

FYI HSV is Holden Special Vehicles, a company part owned by Holden, but a sperate company. They develop enhanced versions of the Holden cars, including the Monaro / GTO.
The project that is eagerly awaited down here is the AWD Monaro

Well just to make it clear, Lutz when he came to GM decided he loved Monaro enough to bring it to the states, so they had 18 months to change it to fit US standards and how to market it. Calling in GTO is just marketing, car has absolutly nothing to do with pontiac or gto...
Main reason they didnt change much is the pricing - for them to do a new body and interior, even if using same exact chasis and suspension, would cost few hundred million $ which in the end means that car would have to be priced a lot higher to amortize the development costs...
