View Full Version : Lift at 56-5700 rpms?
Today the tach in my GTS indicated ~5600 rpm while the 2nd cam profile was still engaged. I've had the car for a year and a half and this has happened several times:
I floor it to redline in any gear (other than 6th of course), then let off the gas untill the tach indicates between 5600-6000 rpms then floor it again only instead of waiting for the 2nd cam profile to engage as usual, it's still engaged. There's no mistaking it because in addition to feeling the car accelerate I can hear the difference clearly through the TRD exhaust and AEM CAI on the car.
I think that the tach must be reading incorrectly, but that doesn't explain why this only happens occasionally and not every time. Is the 2nd cam actually engaged at 5600 rpm? Does anyone else here notice anything like this in their Celica? Thanks.

actually, the tach was right, once you're in lift, it doesn't disengage till you drop to around 5500-5600ish

well then, there might be an easier way to rid of that staying in the second cam crap huh? cause if you shift, and you dont let it drop below 5600, maybe you could disconnnect something and stay in lift? i dunno, just a thought, but someone more inclined mighgt be able to answer this.

actually i think its 5800.. i tried that over and over and over letting it drop a little more each time to see and Im pretty sure its 5800 that it stays engaged till after its already engaged..

does lift first engage at 5600?

no.. it doesnt engage at 5600.. what happens is you go into lift at either 6000 or 6200 (car pending) and then once you are in lift it doesnt fall out of lift until 5800 or so it didnt on my car..

Kools.. is this true for all the gt-s'? I think mine dissengages everytime the tach gets below 6k, or that's what i notice.
but, if it doesn't dissengate 'til 5600.... why are a lot of people having trouble staying in lift in the 1st to 2nd upshift? (i gotta feelin i'm not gettin it all -be nice)

dont know about all.. seems every GTS has a mind of its own :)
I've noticed this too, except second gear. In second gear it cuts out right at 6k.

Larry and Jnsd 's analisys seems correct. The GT-S won't drop outta lift right at 6k... it'll do it a little lower in the rev range, however, the 1-2 seems to be a spot where it doesn't follow the same rules as the rest of the shifts through the rev range.....

OF course not.... That would make sense!
Every time I shift 1-2, it drops out if revs go under 6k. Even if its 5950, I still go to the small cam for that split second until revs reach 6k again.
Irritating, especially since I just can't seem to get that shift down smoothly. 20 months of trying, and I still drop to the lower cam, or miss the shift. Every time~!!~

Seems like the way to keep in lift from 1-2 is to not back off the throttle completely when shifting. Keep those revs above 5600 RPM!
