Most efficient is hitting lift in every gear and riding 4th gear at 110mph :crazy2:

55 Mph at 4 gear saves the most gas

^ what makes u say this ?

and its always going to depend on several other factors as well such as winds and hills

he has a GT, that maybe why.....but still, at 55mph, most car should be in 5th (or 6th if u have it) to maintain the best mileage overall.

Use the highest gear possible without bogging the engine, and use cruise control as much as possible.

A couple of more tips:

1. Don't drive with the windows/sunroof open. Wind drag.
2. Don't ever drive with the air conditioner on.
3. When ever going downhill, put the car in neutral and let momentum take you down.

Especially during summer.... drive with all the the windows and sunroof closed and turn off all air conditioning.... and you better start praying cuz you only have about 1 hour worth of oxygen left....

I've done 36-37MPG between LA and SF by using cruise control in 6th gear between 70-85MPH. Just don't acclerate suddenly and mantain constant speeds for a long time (cruise control is awsome for this). I would have gotten better mielage if I didn;t get stuck in ricer parade LA traffic for an hour.

The key is to maintain the lowest *constant* RPM possible without bogging the enging. Sometimes such as going up a hill you just have to downshift or give it more gas, so you can't always get maximum MPG. Tailgating and city driving are bad for gas milage because you are always braking and accelerating. Of course I wonder if you could get just as good city gas milage if you just took it really light on the gas and took 60 seconds to get to 45 MPH after stopping at a light :)
