View Full Version : JL stealth box for our cars

I was just wondering if any of the JL stealth box listed on JL audio's website would fit in our cars. Maybe not perfectly but has any tried to squeeze it in on the side somehow?
Or would going custom be cheaper?
I just want one 10 inch enclosure on one side of the trunk. I feel like that is the most weight efficient way to go.
I currently have a false wooden floor in my trunk and a 12 inch preenclosed kicker woofer.

There is no Stealthbox for the Celica. The accoustics in the vehicle are problematic especially in the low frequency range. The Steahbox is designed to match the sonic signature of the car and it couldn't get dialed in (can't assume everyone will have an eq). JL Audio purchased a Celica in 2000 with hopes of it being a demo vehicle because of the appeal it would have among youths. After extensive tests it was detrimined that the car was accousticaly undesireable and was replaced with the Golf IV.
There is a score card (in theory) to determine if a Stealthbox makes sense to produce, this car didn't make the grade. A custom enclosure is still a viable option if you wanted something vehicle specific for about the same retail price.

damn... you think they have any prototypes left for sale?
I'm not really a car audiophile and just looking for descent enclosure.
thanks

I disagree with the accoustics of the car. I think the car is great for SQ listening. But I also have my sub at the level of the back seat, aimed off-axis at the glass. The stealth box would be more of a corner loaded box.
I suggest going custom. I've never had much luck with the stealth boxes, since they are rigid enough for my tastes.

how much would going custom range?
I'm thinking about a simple enclosure to fit on the side of my trunk.

Ill have to disagree with you as well. The factory system sounds great in a celica....proving its acoustics right off the showroom floor. I can see why JL would get a tank (VW) since those things are filled with so much insulation and sound deadening while the celica isnt like that at all.

The proto-type enclosure, amp rack, door panels, and kicks are in a very safe place.

Wow, a bit late on that one. BrianGTS also disagrees. Don't leave him out, 'cause that's not nice. :)
You also didn't seem to understand what I was saying. I said your stealth box was probably tucked in the side pocket, aimed across the car. Mine is aimed up at the glass. This obviously is different from an accoustics stand point.
And yeah, I think the accoustics of the car are good enough for me. A judge walked up to Steve Head, and told them "If you want to hear some real sub bass, listen to Curt's car." Steve is a friend of mine, and I took that as a huge compliment. And I think my car sounds good enough that I got 3rd in sound at SVR last year, and 4th place at Finals last year.
And BTW, JL gear doesn't exist in my car anymore. It was all sold the week I came back from SBN.

I had 2 different pairs of w3 which i will admit were good.. but now i got Elemental Design subs and i am in love with them. I just think they need to lower the price and quit being some main stream before they turn out like ****ford pissgate or rockford fosgate which ever one u like better.. Cuz all there subs suck now unless ur willing to shell out ace loads of money.....And from what i've been read alot of ppl like the Brahama's and the reXXX subs....

The XR's were nice speakers. It's just the customer service of JL that made me say F*ck them. And yes, I agree that JL is becoming too main stream and cares more about selling product than keeping the customer or show car competitor happy.
