I don't know how many people have seen my other thread about a month back about adding the TWM shift knob to our Celica. Well upon further investigation and discussion with TWM it was brought to my attention that the shift knob actually should have sit lower.

We found that the little plastic clip that holds up the shift boot was keeping the shift knob from coming down lower. I have since removed that clip and reinstalled the TWM knob. It now sits as low if not lower then stock. Here's a few new pics.

I guess you really could have it either way you want to. I l ike how it looks sitting lower but I wish there was something to hold up the boot better.

Get a shaft collar from a hardware store to hold up the boot and you will be good to go.

You know what you should do.... If you notice, the base for your knob is smaller than the base of the leather boot, you can take out the base for the leather boot and turn it upside down, it has a smaller base on the other side....

Here, before I bought the sparco knob, I had this momo. I turned the base around to fit the momo knob, this is how it looks:

I think alot of it has to do with the angle at which I took the pictures.

i tied a rubber band to the shifter (underneath the boot) to stop the boot from falling....and it eliminated the clicky noise everytime I shift. (the ring on the boot hitting against the shift knob)

I usually play my music so loud that there's no way I can hear the "clicky noise"... :chuckles:

Larry how does the short shifter feel? Is it real notchy? I've heard complaints about the B&M ss being that way, and sine I'm in the market for one right now I'm trying to get some comparisions.

Aside from it getting mad hot in this summer weather and burning my hand(and putting a rag over it during the day does NOT help), I love it!

Well keep in mind we actually have the TRD SS with a TWM knob. IMO it feels great. I definitely noticed a huge difference between the TWM knob and the stock knob.

Eventually Id like to get Kumosport bushings for the shifter base and speed source bushings for the cables but for now it rocks ;)

Looking a little dusty there...:chuckles:I think you need a black shift-boot...because the (stock) gray one doesn't match. Is there any way to change the E-BRAKE handle? Or does any company make an E-BRAKE handle for it? Because the stock one looks really funny.

The boot is black, but with the flash he used it looks gray. The e-brake is black too, an no aftermarket company makes anything for it.

Honestly from the minute I took the car out of the parking lot I was like DAMN this is awesome. Shifts are much easier now and quick as hell becuz of the weighted knob.

Larry, I've got the same knob but with a TWM ss. On the TWM ss, the knob screws further down. I took that plastic clip off as well. There is absolutely no gap between the knob and the plastic ring. I imagine you could either get the TWM ss, get a locking collar as someone suggested, or actually cut a half an inch off the top of your TRD ss, so it will sit lower.

That makes sense, but honestly in person this fits perfectly fine for me.
